I’m Ellie, millennial money coach, financial content creator, coffee addict and sun chaser.
If you’re thinking that I must be one of those kids who grew up counting their precious pocket money, you’d be very wrong. Throughout my teenage years I developed what can only be described as an unhealthy obsession with shoes and funnelled every last penny of birthday money or waitressing wages into expanding my shoe collection. It lasted until university, when I had to sacrifice shoes for skintight dresses and shots...
Little did she know, the journey towards This Girl Talks Money began way back in university final year when my mum, concerned about my budgeting (which included more manicures than meals) and impending life in the real world, signed me up to the Money Saving Expert email list. It wasn’t an overnight job - in fact, it took months and years for the initial spark of interest to translate into reading, learning and actioning - which finally set me on a healthy financial track.
That’s only the start of the journey. Here’s how I got to where TGTM is today…
I graduated with a degree in Modern Languages and headed straight back to school to do the law conversion and the LPC before starting my career as a solicitor
For two years, I trained as a solicitor in the city. In between work, I discovered the London fitness landscape and became well embedded in the fitness world. After many highs and lows, I started to wonder whether I was on the right career route and I began to think about other options.
I qualified as a solicitor and made a huge decision to leave law and try something new. I joined a marketing boutique, developing campaigns for fitness and wellbeing brands. Outside work, conversations with friends led me to constantly ask why the personal finance industry wasn’t engaging with 20 and 30-somethings, especially in the UK. The idea for TGTM sparked...
In Summer 2019, TGTM started out life as a blog and an Instagram channel. With one aim - to make money more manageable for young women - I set out to create the content that I wish I’d found years before. Luckily, it seemed that others wanted to read the content too and I got offered the first opportunities to write financial content for other blogs and brands.
It turns out that lots of people want to level up their personal finances! TGTM grew to a fully-fledged online community and my financial research + content writing became full-time freelance work. My mission became crystal-clear: to help millennial women to feel confident and in control of their money without sacrificing their social lives.
Now more than ever, financial confidence and knowledge can change your life. That’s why I decided to train and become a certified financial coach, opening up the next evolution of my role as a financial coach, educator and content creator.
