A 25-year-old woman, who had filed a complaint with the cybercrime cell about her private pictures being uploaded on social media, realized to her shock that the pictures were put up by none other than her own former husband.
Razia (name changed) lives with her family in Sarkhej area and works in a private company in Anandnagar. She was earlier married to a Vatva resident but the couple separated some time ago due to some marital issues. She is active on the social media website Instagram.
Last year in September, Razia’s boyfriend Mahesh (name changed) told her that pictures of some of their private moments were uploaded on Facebook profile from a profile called ‘Sanjay Patel’. She checked and found that the picture were indeed hers. And according to Razia, she and Mahesh did not know anybody by the name of Sanjay Patel, and the pictures were uploaded on Facebook without their knowledge. An application was filed with the cybercrime cell which started an investigation.
The crime cell traced the links of the FB profile to Razia’s former husband Shoaib (name changed). Police said Shoaib somehow accessed pictures of Razia’s and Mahesh’s personal moments and uploaded them under the fictitious name of Sanjay Patel. He then circulated the pictures to lots of people and groups. The cybercrime cell registered an FIR in the case on Saturday.
