Susan Branch's book are all pretty with the watercolor pictures and journal type font. I've found, especially after this one, that I'm not fond of the content. It's journal like, which I usually like. This one is titled "Girlfriends Forever" and the beginning talks about some girlfriends and events, but most of it just gives little blurbs here and there thrown into recipes and her days. It really was pretty boring.
This is my second copy...one will be "gifted" to a friend who also is a big Susan Branch fan. The books is fabulous...a visual treat full of treats you can make to eat, or simply enjoy looking at. It arrived in perfect condition.
Bought this book for a very dear friend. She passed it on to one of her close friends. Just a really nice book to pass on to othes. Love the illustrations.
Susan Branch has a wonderful way of weaving together the things girls think about and love doing together in this book. Her memories help spark our own memories of the things we did with our best friends growing up. It has recipes, get together and party ideas and wonderful suggestions on how to care for ourselves and each other. Her usual selection of quotes, watercolor artwork and insightful words fill this book. She does not disappoint us as once again she finds a way to bring her friendship into our homes. It is the kind of book only a true girlfriend can appreciate.
I bought a copy for me back in 1999 and I cherish it. So inspirational! I recently purchased a copy for my daughter because she wanted to have her own copy. Absolutely enchanting and delightful!!
I gave this wonderful book to a wonderful friend. We both love it! The illustrations are fabulous, and the anecdotes and thoughts the author shares are amusing and sentimental. Women are quick to relate to Susan Branch's experiences and memories. Stirred up memories that I had long forgotten and enjoyed revisiting them. Makes a great girlfriend gift.

It's old. Interesting facts, but I don't think it's gift worthy. I read through it, but buying something else for a gift to an old friend. I may throw it in as an extra gift.

Enjoyable book
This is a lovely book which I enjoy. It is well presented, interesting read and beautifully illustrated not to mention the good recipes.

Susan Branch was born and raised in Southern California. She calls her 1849 home on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard her "heart magnet" because she was drawn to New England from childhood and loved it before she ever saw it. She finally moved there in her early 30's, no longer able "to live without four seasons and white picket fences as everyday architecture." She is the oldest of eight children and inspired by "almost everything." Her hand-lettered and watercolored Heart of the Home series of books are a reflection of the Home-Arts of cooking, gardening, homemaking, family, best friends, entertaining, and the little things that make life sweet.
Her newest book, A FINE ROMANCE ~ Falling in Love with the English Countryside, is a hand-written and watercolored diary of her two-month jaunt through the back roads of England in search of her literary and artistic roots. Part love story, part travel guide, It's filled with the little details, both in words and pictures, that Susan's readers have grown to love.
Susan has a large and loyal following on her blog at www.susanbranch.com and her personal newsletter ("Willard," named for her grandfather), filled with photos, recipes and art, is emailed to approximately 50,000 subscribers monthly.

This is a lovely book which I enjoy. It is well presented, interesting read and beautifully illustrated not to mention the good recipes.
I am just a little girl of 13, and this just goes to show you, how Susan Branch, can rain on older women, middle aged women, young women, and little girls! (me, children!) I own three of Susan Branch's books, which consist of "Christmas Joy" "Love" and "Girlfriends Forever" (My personal favorite so far!) It has all of her stories, and it's all handmade with her beautiful artwork and handwritting! Even though Im too young to cook, I show my mama and papa, and we cook ALL her recipes! Yes, even the hard stuff! Susan Branch is like an angel! All of her things make you feel like your living in the country, in that lilac covered cottage, with bunnies hopping up the stairs, and quotes in frames over doorways. With dinner parties, quilts, and watercolors! Leaves, flowers, beaches, and snowstorms! Fireplaces, lemonade stands, and kittens! The land of Susan Branch, is somewhere, I travel alot, and I invite everyone to join me! Love ++Princess Nicole++
While I have the complete Susan Branch collection and have loved her artwork and recipes for years, I must say that I was very disappointed in this particular book. The other books Heart of the Home, Vineyard Seasons, The Summer Book, and Christmas from the Heart of the Home, have a very homey, average-jane (that's me!), judeo-christian type tone to them. The recipes are great and there are wonderful "I-can-do-this" ideas for decorating, entertaining, celebrating, etc. However, Girlfriends Forever, was a let down to me. I felt that this book was rife with New Age philosophies and Women First/feminist ideals, which as a Christian, just didn't sit right
