This is it! My final post here on the Girlfriends 4 Ever page, which has felt like a bit of a home for the last few months. A little bit of Affect3D history in the making that will be remembered with mixed emotions now, but fondly once the dust has settled.
I won’t go into too much detail, there are a number of things to announce but of most importantly I’ll be kicking off the Free G4E DLC (for G4E owners), more on that below.
Do you really want to know the whole abbreviated story? What really went down on release date? Then go ahead, but a fair warning, it’s starts of happy enough but becomes very, very painful to read towards the end.
So this whole deal, this whole event was about introducing Affect3D’s first animation project. Yes it was always going to be a little rough around the edges, but it was also going to be my first, and like a girl popping her cherry, I’d be damned if I wouldn’t have at least tried to make it that special moment
The basic premise was awake interest and question marks with the teaser, about a month later show off the trailer quickly followed by the release. Easy enough. I’d kept this little animation project under wraps for a long time so announcing it for the first time was a big moment. Also a bit scary considering the fact that I had no idea what the reception would be. Luckily it was mostly positive, not huge but in the right direction. Fast forward to the trailer, a month had become two during which I completed the outro scene leading up to the vote. I’d spent far too much time on that scene. The production for it become somewhat chaotic. The actual animation for it ended up being only around 50 secs long but what I wanted was at least two, so I had the idea of adding camera angles, something I’d experimented with for the kissing scene. Long story short coordinating the pieces and fix renders took far, far longer than I had planned and by the time it was done, I had somewhat overstepped on the material I actually wanted to show. During all this time I had the trailer sitting in the wings, as I’d completed it before even releasing the teaser. So I got it out in time just before you guys forced me to show sex scenes, haha, cause I knew that the trailer contained plenty of them.
I remember the night of the release of the trailer clearly. It was ready to go all I had to do was flick the switch. I’d cracked a couple of jokes leading up to it and literally hit ‘update page’ on the second… which was a huge mistake… cause all I got was a server error. Everyone had pressed refresh at the same time which caused the server to crash. Me and Alpensepp tried to frantically get the server back up, first long enough for me to post the update and again to get it stable. It took a while but we eventually managed. I was pretty much overwhelmed with the response for the trailer I have to say, just one of those life-time moments. We’d also started that awesome last contest and I think I just spent a little too much time eagerly reading entries than I was allowed to
So far so good, but here’s where I made a critical error. I have this rule where I don’t announce dates before said item is complete, as it had gotten me in trouble in the past. About a week after the trailer I knew I could definitely positively without a doubt release the final title in a week. I knew there was absolutely no way I could mess this up, so simple even a donkey could make it. So I broke my rule and announced… and as you may have guessed it bit me in the ass severely. Half a week later I knew I was in trouble, but I kept convincing myself that all I had to do was knuckle down and lose a bit of sleep. That was the second mistake the result of which was that when the release date finally arrived and although we’d made all general preparations we were under coordinated, my big fault. A years worth of work an awesome build up, my pride an joy on the line and then this. FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK! After I had planted my head in every wall in close proximity it was time to face the consequences.

Being my first animation project I knew there was going to be a lot of feedback. In other news the mac fix has proven trickier than anticipated. Working on it, will publish it as soon as it’s ready.
Sorry again about the download issues. Been a wild 18 hours. On the one hand we’ve been really amazed at how awesome the response has been on the other we thought we had the bandwidth issue cornered, but alas download limits on BMT’s end meant Affect3D staff again had to put down their pencils and paint brushes and deliver external links around the clock to the majority of BMT orders (we’ve contacted them about it) on top of the traffic issues the store has been experiencing. It’s been crazy fun and crazy wild all at the same time Huge thanks again to Supro, Alpensepp, Uthstar01, Fan3D, Frefred5150 and Tiaz some of whom worked shifts of 14+ hours to keep things afloat. Amazing work! With all that some emails fell through the cracks and some of you had to wait far too long for download links. Sorry!!!! It wasn’t a well tuned process rather something we improvised off the cuff. Still most of you were so patient! You are the best!
So I have a couple of quick fixes for you. Firstly some Mac users have experienced issues.

If you use OSX10.8 and your OS reports the file is broken and should be deleted, you have to allow unsigned apps.

There is also an issue with file permissions “start.app/Contents/MacOS/Flash Player” lacks execution permissions for anyone but root…
You can replace your start.app with this one with fixed permissions:

Also for those who’ve been experiencing BMT download issues try the following workaround submitted by “nextinline“. Some appear to have mixed results, but success rate seems high, try… and I quote:
The BMT “wait an hour?” “NO WAY gimmee G4E NOW!” workaround….
1–open the BMT Product Information email (the one with the DL links) in a new window. In gmail, holding shift will do this.
2–click on the first link about 30 times, or, until an all-white tab shows up. Just ignore the error messages on all the tabs.
3–if the all-white tab starts downloading, look for the download animation in the lower left in Chrome, then just wait for it to finish. Depends now on your connection speed.
4–if the all white tab fails, then, delete all the tabs and repeat steps 2 and 3 using the second email link
6–the third email link does not seem to work? Ignore it.

Big apologies about the one day delay and ongoing server issues the site’s been experiencing. Hard to say, but the high bit rate of the video clips require a machine that’s not too old, particularly in full screen mode. If some people on older machines are finding the playback choppy I can make a lower bit rate version available.

I’ve been thinking about a fair price for some time and I think $25 is the sweet spot. Image sets are selling at around the $10 mark and Umemaro, Double Cream Soft type of works had been until recently around $35. I see mine definitely in the middle in terms of content hence the $25. What payment methods will be available? At release we’ll have the following payment methods available: Credit Card, Debit Card, Pre Paid and Gift Cards. I’ve been getting a lot of requests for Paypal, but unfortunately we cannot offer this payment method, because they currently have a policy against adult content.
