For those of you who do not see the connection between pepperoni and nipples, allow me to enlighten you! A soul sister of mine recently had a cosmetic procedure to remove excess breast tissue. This update was due to a very healthy and beneficial weight loss that had occurred and not all body parts responded with similar enthusiasm; in fact, two particular members of her body became so depressed that they simply would not stop staring at the ground so it was time to give those babies a lift, so to speak!
The morning of the procedure, the day began in anticipation and excitement. The photos of befores and afters were so encouraging and the promise of a new wardrobe and fresh visual appeal made pre-surgical anxieties diminish in a flash. The surgeon was excited, having performed many of these life-enhancing procedures and set to work like an artist with a brand-new canvas. Making observations, drawing on experience, marking outlines, he created within his mind’s eye a mental vision of the improved outcome. My friend was a bit nervous and excited but seeing this artist at work encouraged her to entertain her own visions of how her new body would look and feel and the relief of not having to face the sad eyes of her own down-staring nipples any longer! Perky perfection was the order of the day and the cost would be worth every penny.
Three hours later, my brave beauty came out of the surgery center bandaged-up, banged-up, but happy. Having been relocated to the northern equator at last, her former topography was no where to be found! The post-surgical directions were clear and medication instructions were to be followed to the letter without question—pain meds would be in order! One teeny, tiny, little detail that was mentioned at the 24-hour post-op visit: former nipples, having been relocated from the southern to the northern hemisphere, may not find the climate agreeable and must undergo acclimatization. The application of a specific cream would be needed in order to help them adhere and attach themselves to their new surroundings. It seems that one of the possible adverse outcomes of this procedure is that the little darlings might not like their new environment and may simply refuse to stay!
Needless to say, the visions this little addendum conjured up were not without shock and a bit of humor. So, what does all of this have to do with pepperoni, you may be asking…? Picture yourself finding remnants of pizza night spent with your children and their friends. Having feasted the night before, you bend over to clean up the crumbs only to find that it is my friend’s nipples laying on the floor like two pieces of pepperoni! This may not be the worst that could happen except that just when bent over to retrieve the little rascals, the family dog bounds in and laps them up like leftover treasures!
Fortunately, this is not the end of the tale and all does end well. The subjects in question are being happily re-suited and readjusted and are enjoying their new view. The future is looking promising but I can say that from now on my pizza with pepperoni will require a closer inspection!
Make mine with extra cheese, please…

We all love to categorise ourselves. We’re introverts or extroverts. Cat people or dog people. We have V shape bums or round ones . We analyse our split end types . We take endless quizzes to find out who we really are.
So when Seventeen told us that there are, in fact, different types of nipples we could potentially have, we immediately (well, not really. We waited until we got home) whipped off our tops to take a look.
Dr Tsippora Shainhouse revealed these eight nipple options to Seventeen, explaining that there is no superior type, it is possible to have nipples that fit more than one category (hairy and protruding, for example), and all eight kinds of nipples are totally normal (and, might we add, glorious).
This is when the nipples are raised a few millimetres above the surface of the areola and point outwards from the body. When cold or stimulated, the nipples become harder and more pronounced.
When ‘resting’ (not cold or stimulated), the nipple is totally flat and blends into the areola.
The entire areola and nipple area is raised on top of the breast. The nipple can become more pronounced when cold or stimulated.
Ever spotted little bumps that look like spots around the nipples? Don’t squeeze them – they’re called Montgomery glands and are totally normal. Everyone has ’em, it’s just that they’re more noticeable in people with the bumpy nipple type.
Here’s something loads of people experience but no one seems to talk about: nipple hair.
Everyone has hair follicles around the nipple, but some have hairier nipples than others. It’s totally fine to leave the hair as it is or pluck out with a tweezer.
We’re sure we don’t need to make it clear how bad of an idea it would be to shave in that area. DO NOT DO IT.
When the nipple goes inwards, instead of out. Again, totally normal. If this happens suddenly, however, and you can’t gently use your fingers to bring your nipple back out, check in with your GP – if only for reassurance.
Same thing as above, but with one inverted nipple instead of both.
Dr Shainhouse notes that if this has always been the case, it’s perfectly safe. But if it’s a new development, this may be a sign of breast cancer – see your GP immediately if this is the case.
An extra nipple! Nothing to be worried about. More nipples more fun, right?

Experts have revealed the different types of nipples classed as medically 'normal', and the warning signs to look out for.
Doctors at The Hospital Group have shared a range of breasts to assure women that a variety of traits - including protruding and hairy nipples - are totally normal.
However they have warned women to look out for unexpected changes in the nipple position, explaining that inverted nipples are generally nothing to worry about - unless they have suddenly become that way.
Elsewhere they explained that while 90 per cent of bumps are usually non cancerous, women should visit the doctor if a new lump does appear and persist.
Doctors at The Hospital Group have shared a range of breasts to assure women that a variety of traits - including protruding, pictured, are totally normal
'The areola is the small pinkish, pigmented area which circles around the nipple.
'When the nipple protrudes for the areola, if this is particularly noticeable, it can cause discomfort in your clothing and underwear choices depending on the severity of the nipples.
'However it is nothing to worry about, and if uncomfortable can be corrected by surgery.'
'Nipples come in different shapes and sizes, and whilst there’s no such thing as ‘too big’, doctors said
'Nipples come in different shapes and sizes, and there’s no such thing as ‘too big’ or ‘too small’ when it comes to your breasts.
'It is still completely normal to feel conscious, but size is nothing to worry about.'
Doctors also said that similar to different sized breasts, some people my feel their nipples aren't in proportion - but this is nothing to worry about
'Equally to larger breasts, we may also feel as though our nipples are especially small and aren’t in proportion with the size or shape of our breasts.
'However this is also very normal and nothing to worry about.'
Hormonal changes like starting a new contraceptive pill can also cause hair to grow around the nipples and in places you aren’t used to but it's nothing to worry about
'All women (and men in particular!) have hair follicles on the areola and hair can vary in colour, thickness, and texture for each.
'Hair can be influenced by ethnicity, and sometimes pregnant women notice hairs darkening, thickening or growing and all of this is completely normal.
'Hormonal changes like starting a new contraceptive pill can also cause hair to grow around the nipples and in places you aren’t used to – again, all 100 per cent normal.'
If you’ve always had inverted nipples, this is nothing to worry about, but be sure to watch out for any sudden, unexpected changes in the nipple position
'If you’ve always had inverted nipples, this is nothing to worry about.
'Be sure to watch out for any sudden, unexpected changes in the nipple position for example if they appear to be sunken or turning inwards.'
Flat nipples are characterised by their position on the areola but they are nothing to medically worry about
'Flat nipples are characterised by their position on the areola, instead of appearing raised or outwards from the breast, they often look completely flat regardless of arousal or cold snaps of weather.
'However this is also nothing to worry about'.
When the areola is raised and puffy this is usually due to excess tissue in the areola area which can often be hereditary or a result of hormonal changes during puberty
'When the areola is raised and puffy this is usually due to excess tissue in the areola area which can often be hereditary or a result of hormonal changes during puberty.
'It is also a sign of raised hormone levels which occur in pregnancy or simply during your monthly menstrual cycle.'
Those tiny bumps on your areola are completely normal and can be found on all nipples, but some are more pronounced than others
'Those tiny bumps on your areola are completely normal and can be found on all nipples, but some are more pronounced than others which can affect our confidence if we feel as though they are particularly noticeable.
'However they are totally normal and nothing to worry about'.
'We recommend that all women should thoroughly check their breasts every month by looking out for new lumps or bumps in the armpits and chest that they haven’t noticed before - and seem to persist regardless of your menstrual cycle.
'According to the NHS, 90 per cent of lumps in the breasts aren't cancerous, but it's always best to have them checked by your doctor.
'If you have noticed something different about your nipples and you have concerns, particularly if the changes seem to persist or appear to have changed or developed, our best advice is not to ignore it and to seek medical advice from your GP.'
Breast cancer can cause a number of symptoms, but the first noticeable symptom is usually a lump or area of thickened breast tissue.
Most breast lumps aren't cancerous, but it's always best to have them checked by your doctor.
According to NHS Choices you should also see your GP if you notice any of the following:
