I think you should let go. If she's acting unpredictably it is because she is still battling with accepting you when she knows she cannot accept you the way you expect. Coming in ‘hot’ as her second single from One of the Boys “Hot n Cold” is a song about a boy who is constantly changing his mind and going through mood swings – and how all of this annoys Perry and affects her relationship with him. In the years since its release, “Hot n Cold” has become a Perry standard, and is one of her more recognizable songs to date.
Unlike the guy in the song, the song’s reception was anything but cold; it was the second-most successful single off of One of the Boys ,
In a Glamour feature on the subjects of her songs, Perry was reported as saying:
One day this person would send me a text and I would be so thrilled about it because I had been waiting for some kind of sign – a smoke signal…He would be all interested and then I would just lose him, or one day he would want to see me and then one day he wouldn’t. I didn’t know what was wrong with him, if he was bipolar, or if he was wearing a mood ring. I took the theme and the song kind of spilled out of me.
Yes! Perry has recorded two separate (and quite unique) versions of the song.
The first was released with the Sims 2 expansion pack, Apartment Life , in 2008 – and was included in the actual game (for your sims' enjoyment, and presumably to promote the single). Like other real-life songs appearing in Sims games, however, Perry re-recorded the song in “Simlish” (the game series' made-up language). The song was used to promote the new expansion pack as well, with EA releasing a music video featuring both the song and the new features the pack brought to the game. Notably, while this was the first time Perry’s music showed up in the Sims franchise, it would not be the last.
The second version came in 2010 and with a bit more controversy. Like The Sims , the hit children’s television show Sesame Street has often brought on popular artists and bands to sing children-friendly versions of their songs. Perry, like others before her, recorded a version of the song re-focused on Elmo’s antics and Perry questioning whether he actually wanted to play dress-up with her. After previewing the accompanying clip on YouTube before the episode’s premiere, however, parents began to complain that Perry’s outfit in the segment was too revealing for a show aimed at toddlers. As a response, the producers of the show pulled the segment from airing. Perry later made light of the incident while on SNL by wearing an Elmo shirt purposefully cut to show off her cleavage.
