"Two transparent browns, yet very different. Burnt Sugar [left] is a peachy, warm brown. Brown Eyed Girl [right] is a yellowish, cool brown. Both are super interesting, nice colours." Read more at DragonJools blog . – Dwyn Tomlinson
CiM Tester Feedback
We attempted to make a more reddish version of Maple, and the result was Brown Eyed Girl. Some testers noticed a subtle difference, but most find Brown Eyed Girl and Maple interchangeable.
“Smooth clear transparent brown. Teeny tiny wisps in the glass. I found that Horehound and Brown Eyed Girl are so close that the difference was in the wisps. Beads from left to right: Maple, Horehound, Effetre light Topaz, Brown Eyed Girl, Burnt Sugar, and Indian Summer.”
A comparison of Horehound and Brown Eyed Girl.
Blown hollows [top to bottom: Brown Eyed Girl, Limeade, Scotch Broom].
"This warm transparent brown is Brown Eyed Girl. It doesn’t react with ivory or turquoise and could be a lovely base bead. Shown here as spacers, with ivory and turquoise dots and over silver foil. It produced a cool effect over the foil, dark and mysterious, something I plan to experiment more with."
"Brown Eyed Girl is very similar to CiM Maple that was released a few years ago and was lovely with silver applications. In this bead set, I used Brown Eyed Girl with silvered ivory stringer to create dotted beads. Copper foil dragonflies were encased under Double Helix Zephyr capturing the luster of the copper on the brown transparent glass. The focal barrel bead combined these glasses with CiM's Painted Hills, an opaque yellow, which warmed in the torch to a golden hue. Spacers of Brown Eyed Girl complete the set." See more at Darlene's blog .
"A dark, true neutral brown. A dark version of Horehound and very close to Maple. A great addition to the transparent, neutral CiM palette. I made a simple spacer bead. I also made a second bead with a base of Effetre Super Clear. The left side was then encased in Effetre white to represent the opaque, the middle in CiM Marshmallow to represent the translucent, and finally the right remained clear to represent the transparent. Brown Eyed Girl was then wound onto this bead. This gives the opportunity to see encasement in a variety of common beadmaking situations."
"Brown Eyed Girl is probably my favourite of the three brownish colours from CiM this year. It's beautifully saturated and a really nice colour. I notice a few micro bubbles in these photos but I suspect those are from the cut end of the rod, I certainly didn't notice any bubbling going on while I was working the glass. I've tried it with silvered ivory stringer and I'm very happy with the result. A great, warm transparent brown."
"Brown Eyed Girl is a lovely colour and a great match to Maple."
"Brown Eyed Girl is the darkest of the 3 new colours and more of a true brown rather than tones of amber or topaz. All 3 of these transparent colours were wonderfully well behaved in the flame, no boiling or micro bubbles at all." Read more at Kitzbitz Art Glass' blog .
"As soon as I saw this colour I mistook it for Maple. I love Maple and as Maple has been unavailable I was happy to see a replacement. I put Brown Eyed Girl against Maple and honestly could not see a difference. Like Maple it melts beautifully and holds its colour. Absolutely beautiful in my opinion and a winner without a doubt."
"Brown Eyed Girl is a truly transparent brown in my opinion. Not shocky and no issues with bubbling or scumming. Played nicely with dichroic and silver glass on the surface of the bead."

"Brown Eyed Girl is a much darker shade, when I first glanced at the rod I thought it may be similar to Maple ... so I did compare the two. Maple has definite khaki undertones, while BEG has warmer tones with a touch of red."
