Gillian Anderson knows how to turn heads.
The gorgeous 46-year-old actress looked sexy and stunning in a sheer, nude-colored gown , adorned with shimmering, silver embellishments at the Glamour UK Women of the Year Awards on Tuesday. However, the dress seemed to show quite a bit more than we've come to expect from the typically-reserved star.
There's no denying that the talented beauty is every bit as fit and formidable as she was in her X-Files days (if not more so). However it appears that the bright flashes from the photographer's cameras might have made her sheer dress a little more see-through than the actress intended.
There's a good rule when it comes to red carpet fashions: If a wardrobe malfunction might happen, it will happen. Also, if you don't want to show your nipples, wear a flesh-tone bra just to be on the safe side.
Then again, the mild exposure might have been intentional on the part of the blonde bombshell. Anderson, who currently stars on the BBC crime drama The Fall and NBC's Hannibal , might be trying to raise fans' temperatures in anticipation of The X-Files upcoming return to television.
Either way, there's no denying that Anderson – who accepted the Theatre Actress of the Year honor at the event – is as sultry as ever. She's one of the only stars who could make a possible wardrobe malfunction look super classy.

Gillian Anderson (age 51) is a British-American actress who has appeared in various movies, TV shows, plays, and even video games. Her most iconic role to date is still that of Agent Dana Scully, who she played opposite David Duchovny’s Agent Mulder on The X-Files .
Besides being an award-winning actress, Anderson is also a gay icon and activist. She came out as bisexual in 2012 and supports The Trevor Project, an organisation that helps at-risk LGBTQ youth. She also co-founded the South African Youth Education for Sustainability (SAYes) organisation and is a long-time supporter of the Feminist Majority Foundation.
While Gillian Anderson is most famous for her brilliant portrayal of the strong, sexy, and intelligent FBI Agent Scully, the Hollywood actress has other impressive credits as well. She starred in the 2000 Edith Wharton adaptation The House of Mirth , a role which garnered her much critical acclaim.
Anderson also appeared on Hannibal as the lead character’s psychiatrist. In 2017, she made headlines once again for her role as Media in the Neil Gaiman TV series American Gods . And just this year, Netflix picked Anderson for the role of the hilarious and raunchy sex therapist Jean Milburn in Sex Education .
Gillian Anderson is never one to play it safe. In fact, it seems like she even gravitates towards controversial characters that break convention.
In The Fall , Anderson’s Stella Gibson flips stereotypes on its head. There’s a notable sex scene in the first series where Gibson nonchalantly picks up a young policeman to have a one-night stand with, easily discarding him after the deed – a powerful and cold portrayal which strays from the usual depiction of soft, pliable, and passionate femininity.
Anderson’s most controversial scene to date has to be from Netflix’s Sex Education (obviously). Her sex therapist character does not hold back when describing sexual acts, treating her patients’ sexual hang-ups, or hooking up with random men.
But the outrageous scene in question has Anderson demonstrate how to give a proper handjob using a courgette. It rightly mortified her son in the show, played by Asa Butterfield, just as much as it shocked viewers!
Agent Dana Scully (played by Anderson) and Agent Fox Mulder (played by David Duchovny) have always had a palpable sexual tension on The X-Files . The actors had no romantic entanglements off-screen, but their on-screen chemistry was recaptured in this sexy photoshoot with Rolling Stone magazine.
At the 2001 Vanity Fair Oscar afterparty, Gillian Anderson rocked a super low-back dress with some funky shades. Her simple black thong was pulled high at the waist, allowing it to peek out cheekily from underneath the sheer frock.
Anderson stripped it down for a sex scene in the 2007 British revenge thriller Straightheads . The film uses sex, rape, and violence in a rather uncomfortable way, so consider this as a trigger warning!
Ever the activist, Anderson willingly posed topless with a sea creature to protest overfishing in Europe. Other actors involved in the series include Downton Abbey’ s own Hugh Bonneville and Elizabeth McGovern.
Gillian Anderson showed off her incredible bikini-ready body and toned legs at age 50 for an anti-fur campaign for PETA. The actress was completely nude, strategically hiding her breasts with her hands. The photo was displayed on a billboard in Manhattan that was over 70 feet tall.
So where is Anderson’s career headed now? She definitely doesn’t have a shortage of projects to work on. Coming off the highly successful Netflix series Sex Education , Anderson is set to reprise her role as Jean Milburn in season 2 of the series. It was also recently announced that Anderson will play Margaret Thatcher on season 4 of The Crown .
