Gillian Anderson is joining the growing flock of celebrities who would “rather go naked than wear fur.” And The X-Files star proved just that in PETA ‘s latest campaign aiming to prevent the cruel treatment of animals in the fashion industry and beyond.

The Emmy winner wears nothing but a pair of costume cat ears and a huge smile in PETA’s newest ad, which will be featured on a 70-foot billboard hanging over Penn Station during New York Fashion Week this month.

“I found it liberating to use my body to make an important statement,” Anderson, 49, says of teaming with PETA for the powerful photo shoot. “People tend to look away from anti-fur ads showing mangled animals, but they’re drawn to PETA’s ‘naked’ campaign, and I’m proud to be a part of it.”

In the past, stars like Pink and Taraji P. Henson have stripped down for PETA’s fashion week ads to protest the use of fur on the runway.

“I would like to say I’ve always been fur-free,” Pink said after her billboard was revealed in February 2015 . “Unfortunately, I went through a selfish phase and wore fur on a couple of occasions. But I wised up and now boycott fur completely.”

More and more designers have stopped using fur and joined PETA’s cause after year’s of protests from the animal-rights organization. Most recently, Michael Kors and Gucci announced their collections would no longer include real fur.

In 2015, Anderson teamed up for a PETA TV spot which followed the series finale of her cannibal-themed NBC show Hannibal . Anderson and Hannibal producer Bryan Fuller put together the shock ad (below) , which shows the actress sitting down to dinner with her leg as the main course.

“Writing Hannibal made me realize that human beings and other animals have more similarities than differences,” Fuller told Entertainment Weekly at the time . “It had a direct impact on how I view meat and what I put in my body. Eating another sentient being is no different than eating another human being, in my mind. The trauma of Hannibal cuts both ways.”

On 10th June 2021, the fansite world stopped when the news of our dear friend Angie passing away started to spread. She was an angel, a beautiful soul, a generous heart and a loyal friend.
There are no words to express the deep sadness we are all feeling, but we as a community thought that Angie would want her fansite to keep living, to go on and to grow. It is my honor to keep doing this with her baby that this fansite was, and I promise I will do my best to bring it on, although I know I will never be as good as she was.
To you Angie , may you inspire us all to be always better, more open to others and not judging at all. I want to remember your smile and beauty shining into the days and making them much better.

Women for Women International created ‘sister-to-sister’ connections between isolated women in Bosnia and individual ‘sponsor sisters’ around the world.

In this episode of “The Envelope,” Anderson dishes on the importance of Roosevelt’s loving relationship with journalist Lorena Hickok, why “Sex Education” initially didn’t click with her, and the long legacy of “The X-Files.”

Olsen: There definitely is a lot of the more things change, the more they stay the same vibes to it as they all face the challenges of being underestimated, overlooked and not listened to.
Villarreal: Ah, yes, the joys of being a woman.
Olsen: It really was one of the best things about the conversation with Gillian. As someone who’s been pretty famous for quite a while now, she really has a great perspective on the evolution of what it’s been like to be a woman in Hollywood, including the way the media treated women from the ‘90s to today.
Villarreal: Yeah, you know, I have to say, Dana Scully was one of my earliest TV role models. And I remember that Gillian really developed a voice and advocated for herself over the pay discrepancy between her and her X-Files co-star, David Duchovny, back then and yet again with the revival in 2016. And I, I have to think that Eleanor Roosevelt would have approved of that.
Olsen: But Gillian is def not living in the past. I mean, she’s recently reached this just really incredible new moment in her career. She won an Emmy for playing Margaret Thatcher on “The Crown.” She appeared on “Sex Education,” which she said surprised even her and most recently had a just hilarious turn on “The Great,” all while continuing to have an ongoing stage career as well. So let’s get to our conversation. Welcome to the show. Thanks for joining us.
