My GA-Z97-D3H rev 1 .1 have a M2-SSD conector but don't says what is the exact type of the M2 SSD . I only know that it supports 10 Gbps data transfer . Then, obviously, NVMe drives is not suported, right? Then, i want to put a NVMe drive by an PCI-E adapter like this:

I've got the GA -Z77- D3H and managed to get a NVMe drive working on it . I followed a guide to edit the BIOS to remove some modules (network boot) and add others ( NVMe module from a newer Gigabyte BIOS) . The NVMe adapter sits in the 2nd graphic card slot and runs at 4 lanes of PCI-E v2 (2GB/sec in total) and it's bootable .
PCIe is backwards compatible, so if the board supports NVMe drives (I think Z97s will generally support NVMe 1 .3, which means modern drives) it should work . The issue is that, again as far as I know off the top of my head, Z97 boards don't have the full Gen 3 x4 bandwidth you'd expect off a modern motherboard .
My ga-z97 d3h does not boot anymore and I am not able to enter the bios . The led goes on, the fan starts and the ok-beep sounds . After that, a blinking promt appears . Nothing else .(sometimes the bios logo shows up before the promt . I have disconnected everything except the monitor and the fan .

I have a Gigabyte motherboard H97- D3H Rev 1 .1 with Bios F7 (Latest non beta) i bought a WD Blue SN550 500GB SSD And this drive reports a connection of only 2 PCIe lanes but the manual of this board and drive said than can support 4 lanes .
