Submitted by Philip Blakely on Tue, 26/04/2022 - 11:54
The University of Cambridge under the auspices of the Gianna Angelopoulos Programme for Science Technology and Innovation is organising a two-week summer school in High Performance Computing.
Applications are invited for scholarships to attend the summer school which will be hosted by the Centre for Scientific Computing, University of Cambridge, 5th-16th September 2022, in the Department of Materials Science and Metallurgy, University of Cambridge, U.K.
The overall aim of this two-week course is to provide course attendees with a strong background in elements of high performance computing techniques suitable for general science and technology projects.
At the end of the course attendees will be able to write a range of numerical algorithms in C++, understand what issues affect the performance of the code, and be familiar with methods of utilising multiple CPU cores. They will also be introduced to a range of topics suited to high-performance software development, including command-line Linux, version control, data structures, and super-computer cluster queueing systems. Topics include: Introduction to Linux, Scientific Programming in C++, Performance Programming, Parallel Architectures, OpenMP, MPI (message passing interface), Software Development. More details on the course can be found at https://www.csc.cam.ac.uk/academic/cpd/hpcacademy.
The course is suitable for participants with a university degree in a science, technology or engineering discipline.
Scholarships are available from the Gianna Angelopoulos Programme for Science Technology and Innovation to graduate students, early-career postdoctoral researchers and staff members of Greece-based SMEs (small/medium-size enterprises), and will cover:
The deadline for scholarship applications is Friday 24th June 2022ย and you will be informed of our decision by Friday 8th July .
Applicants for the scholarships should submit a CV with a brief cover letter giving background on how the course will be of benefit to their current research or their business, to shortcourses@csc.cam.ac.uk
Additionally for students and PDRAs, a letter of recommendation should be submitted by the referee directly to shortcourses@csc.cam.ac.uk
Graduate students should be registered at a Greek University. Early-career postdoctoral researchers should have obtained their PhD degree after 1 January 2017.
Graduate students and post-docs are expected to contribute ยฃ250 towards the course fee and members of SMEs are expected to contribute ยฃ500 if attending in person. This is a reduction from the standard course fees of ยฃ550 (ยฃ990 for SMEs), and also covers the accommodation and travel, as described above, which would otherwise cost ยฃ1,400.ย If attending online, the expected contribution is ยฃ120.
