THE family of Daunte Wright has revealed that George Floyd's girlfriend was once Daunte's teacher.
Apart from the fact that both men were killed by cops just 10 miles apart, Wright's aunt has revealed another link between the two.
Courtney Ross is the girlfriend of 46-year-old George Floyd .
She is from Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Courtney said they had been together for three years before his death.
According to a Facebook profile appearing to belong to Ross, she has one daughter and works at a coffee shop in Minneapolis.
During an emotional press briefing with the families of Wright and Floyd and attorneys, Ben Crump and Jeff Storm on April 13, 2021, Wright's aunt Naisha Wright who was wearing a T-shirt with Floyd's picture printed on it alongside the word "justice", told reporters: "I wear this shirt and the craziest thing is to find out today that my family has connections to this man, to this family.
"His girlfriend was the teacher for my nephew.
"My nephew was a lovable young man."
Ross confirmed to the Washington Post that Wright attended Edison High School in Minneapolis when she was employed as a dean there.
She described him as a "silly boy, as goofy as can be", who "needed a lot of love".
"Students like Daunte needed more resources but they never got more resources," Ross told to the Post.
"Our system doesn't serve kids like Daunte. And now I'm seeing, more than ever, this system I once believed in, we're done doing what we need to be doing to protect Black life."
Floyd died after a police officer knelt on his throat for over five minutes during a botched arrest over an allegedly fake $20 bill .
The officer, Derek Chauvin, does not release Floyd's neck until paramedics show up to transport the unconscious 46-year-old to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
It was revealed that Floyd did not have a pulse when he was treated in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.
The crew was "told by several people that the police 'had killed the man,'" according to a fire department report.
Four officers were fired on Tuesday, May 26, 2021 and a petition started begging for Floyd's justice.
Mayor of Minneapolis Jacob Frey said Floyd was killed because he was black .
The former cop was charged with second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter in the death of Floyd back in April of 2021.
He was found guilty of all counts by jurors at the Hennepin County Court and faced a maximum sentence of 75 years.
On June 25, 2021, a judge ruled that Chauvin would serve a 270-month sentence, in addition to the 10 years sentence.
In total, Chauvin will be in jail for 22.5 years , with the 199 days he has served since his charges counting toward the sentence.
Floyd's brother, Terrence Floyd begged the court for Chauvin to have a maximum sentence, saying: "On behalf of me and my family, we seek the maximum penalty.
"We don't want to see no more slaps on the wrist. We've been through that already... no, no, no, no."
"If it was us, if the roles was reversed, there wouldn't be no case.
Chauvin broke his silence during the sentencing trial and apologized to Floyd's family, saying: "I want to give my condolences to the Floyd family.
"There's going to be some other information in the future that would be of interest and I hope things will give you some peace of mind."
The three other fired officers who assisted in Floyd's arrest - J Alexander Kueng , Thomas Lane and Tou Thao - were scheduled to be tried in August 2021 on charges of aiding and abetting murder and manslaughter.
However, the trial was pushed back to March 2022, a judge ruled.
Ross has said her partner "cannot die in vain".
In an emotional video with CNN she described him as an "angel on earth".
She added: "We demonized him. We killed him."
Ross urged people not to remember her partner for how he died, but for what he stood for.
The "man of God" fought for the underdog, Ross said.
She continued: “He stood up for people, he was there for people when they were down, he loved people that were thrown away.
“We prayed over every meal, we prayed if we were having a hard time, we prayed if we were having a good time.”

Single once more. Alex Rodriguez has split from his girlfriend, nutritionist Kathryne Padgett , Us Weekly confirms.
“Alex and Kathryne split. There was no drama and it was amicable,” a source exclusively tells Us . “They remain friends. They had fun the few months they dated , but it never got really serious. He’s doing just fine — getting into shape and focusing on family and his career.”
The retired baseball player, 47, and Padgett, 25, were first spotted together in January at a Green Bay Packers game. A source told Us at the time that the pair were “keeping it casual.” The football date came less than a year after Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez ended their engagement in April 2021.
“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” Lopez, 53, and the former Yankee said in a statement at the time. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”
After the split, the “Jenny From the Block” singer rekindled her romance with Ben Affleck , exchanging vows with him in July. After the Las Vegas nuptials , an insider told Us that Rodriguez wished his former fiancé the best.
“He’s happy for her and happy that she’s with the person she’s meant to be with,” the source said, adding that the New York native was “focused on family, his career and what he’s got going on.”
The former shortstop shares two daughters — Natasha, 17, and Ella, 14 — with his ex-wife, Cynthia Scurtis , whom he was married to from 2002 to 2008. During his four-year relationship with Lopez, he also formed a bond with her 14-year-old twins, Emme and Maximilian .
“A-Rod’s girls and J. Lo’s kids are really close, so the reason why they stayed together for as long as they did was to make their kids happy ,” a source told Us in April 2021. “They still have love for each other that I think will never go away.”
Although a loving father, another insider told Us in January that the A-Rod Corp chairman was enjoying the bachelor life, despite public outings with Padgett.
“He’s in the playing field looking for someone he can eventually be in a serious committed relationship with. He’d love to find the next ‘J. Lo’ — he just hasn’t met ‘her’ yet. … At the moment he’s single and having fun,” the source said at the time.

A man is in custody following a fatal shooting at his ex-girlfriend's apartment building in Sioux Falls .
Authorities say the 38-year-old suspect killed 26-year-old Kaisean Marcell Tyler Monday shortly before 9 p.m. Police Lt. Nick Butler says the alleged shooter was arrested about 5 a.m. Tuesday.
Butler says police have not yet found the weapon used in the crime.
A court affidavit says the suspect arrived at his former girlfriend's apartment to pick up some of his belongings and saw Tyler with the woman in her bedroom. Authorities say the two men exchanged punches and the ex-boyfriend pulled out a handgun and shot Tyler.
A Sioux Fall's man is in custody after killing a man who was at his ex-girlfriend's apartment.
Tyler fell to the ground and the suspect fired three more rounds into the victim's back as his ex-girlfriend got on the floor and covered herself with a blanket, the Argus Leader reported citing the affidavit.
The woman told investigators that her ex-boyfriend once threatened to kill any man he saw at her with at her apartment.
The shooting death is the third homicide of 2022 in Sioux Falls.
