Get Rid Of Toto Asia: 10 Reasons Why You Don't Need It

The Band Toto Asia

Toto was expanding its production facilities overseas and was doing business in France, Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the People's Republic of China. North America was seen as an area of growth for bidet and washlet toilet seats, as opposed its "base" markets in Japan and China.

to-topia documented Toto words so that the next generation could be able to read them. Many words were substituted with foreign words. For instance dui, which is Bengali for verandah was being used.

Origins

Incorporated in 1917, Toto's beginnings mirrored Japan's development. In the beginning, Toto made goods to meet the demand for modern, new urban housing. It had the first tunnel kiln in the nation that could produce ceramics continuously. It also pioneered automation for production control, which allows for greater efficiency and a more consistent production.

In the late 1980s, the company began expanding outwards to take advantage of sales and new markets. It established the Cera Trading Company, importing and distributing other manufacturers' products to complement its own line of sanitary earthenware and plumbing fittings. This strategy helped to increase sales and expand the market share of the company globally.

In the 1990s Toto began to focus on research and development for water-related appliances. It also redesigned its system of distribution to better serve its customers and boost profits. The company used the same approach of just-in-time in its supply chain management and sales program. This led to a higher degree of customer satisfaction.

Toto continued to innovate toilet technology. Its most recent toilet, for example, has a powerful tornado flush that is more eco friendly than conventional toilets. The company also makes use of recycled water in its production process and has a green purchasing policy. Toto also produces bathtubs, faucets, and hand dryers with greater energy efficiency than typical models.

The first museum of the company opened in the year 2015, and it has exhibitions about Toto's iconic products and their evolution, its group companies (all related to ceramics) as well as the history of plumbing and other products like bath units, and in a separate gallery, Toto products sold around the world. The museum even has a bathroom that features a WASHLET toilet and other toilet-related innovations.

Before the formation of Toto the band, members of the band did session work for many musicians. Keyboardist David Paich, drummer Jeff Porcaro and guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather all performed on the album Silk Degrees by Boz Scaggs. They also performed on records by Steely Dan, Seals and Crofts, and Sonny and Cher.

Discography

With a name as evocative as Asia, you would think that the group would be prog kings and queens but they're actually a pretty straight forward rock band. The group was formed as a four-piece and released two albums in 1979, the self-titled debut album and 1980's Armed to the Teeth. But even though the band have a diverse musical background, their biggest success was achieved in 1982 with Toto IV.

The album was a huge blockbuster, but it was not without its share of problems. The record companies put Toto under pressure to release an album that was a success or they would rescind them. Toto was able achieve this feat with the help of the smash hit "Africa."

Toto's musical mastery is due to their prior experience since the members were session musicians for artists such as Boz Scaggs, Steely Dan, and Seals and Crofts prior the group. Their distinctive sound has become the standard of '80s music, influencing many contemporary artists.

The album opens with a strong and pounding sound with tracks like Running Out of Time and Unknown Soldier showcasing the bands ability to write amazing AOR songs that slowly work their hooks into your. However, the album also includes some slower, more jazzy tracks such as The Little Things and Chinatown. The album ends with Great Expectations. This song is a mix of folk and distorted AOR that could sound completely wrong but actually works extremely well.

After Toto IV, the band's fortunes started to plummet. David Hungate left the band to pursue a solo career. The band had several drummers. In 1984, Bobby Kimball was fired from the band in the aftermath of drug-related charges. However, the band continued as a trio featuring Michael Porcaro and Steve Lukather.

Toto released Isolation despite the turmoil. It was not as well-liked as IV. The band managed to release an album that was chart-topping, Kingdom of Desire, in 1992. This album marked the conclusion of the original Toto lineup and was also the first to feature a new singer, Simon Phillips.

Steve Lukather and Joe Williams have developed a deep, colorful friendship that thrives professionally on a global basis. In 2018 the duo celebrated their 40th anniversary of Tours Around the Sun with a wildly successful global tour. The album with the same name was ranked #5 on Billboard 200. The new tour by the band includes their most popular songs and rarely played live deep cuts, along with a selection of songs from Lukather and Williams their individual catalogs.

Line-up

The band's third album, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet style of previous albums and was a more ferocious, constant effort with a harder edge than Hydra. Its more punk-rock sound was indicative of the maturation of group, with drummer Bobby Kimball's increased virtuosity on drums, and a more mature, confident vocal delivery by singer Joseph Williams. David Paich's keyboard work was also more sophisticated, sharper and less akin to previous recordings.

After touring to promote their album, the group recorded their Amsterdam live concert which was released on Eagle Records as a 2-CD set titled Falling In Between. A new studio album was released just a few months later and the group embarked on a world-wide tour to promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes replaced Paich and bassist David Hungate quit the group to spend time with his family.

In 1998, Paich & Lukather began searching through old tapes & demos to discover songs that hadn't been recorded before. It was completed in 2001 and released as a double album titled Then and Now. It was the first album in the band's history not to feature any single song that had the word "A" in the title, and it also contained one previously not released track, "Kari-Anne".

By 2003, Toto had begun to decline in popularity. The group's fourth album, Old Is New, was a commercial failure and vocalist Williams suffered from a bad case of laryngitis which hampered his singing. In addition, Hungate returned to Nashville and drummer Leland Sklar was replaced by Shem von Schroeck.

Downes along with the other members of Asia--Wetton, Palmer, and Howe--convened an event in England in the early part of 2006 to discuss the possibility of reforming the band. The lineup, which was minus Howe (who was working with Yes at the time), eventually became known as Toto XIV and toured extensively.

In 2010, the band reunited for another reunion tour with a slightly different line-up, including guitarists Mike Porcaro and Steve Lukather, drummer John Pierce, bassist Shannon Forrest, and multi-instrumentalists Warren Ham and Dominique Taplin. The group also featured an appearance by singer Michael McDonald and a backing vocalist named Mabvuto Carver.
