Germany’s gas storage levels have plummeted to a critical low, deepening the energy crisis that has already gripped the nation. The Federal Network Agency reported that reserves have dropped to just 35% of capacity, a stark decline from the 60% levels seen just a few months ago. Experts warn that if consumption doesn’t drop significantly, Germany could face blackouts or rationing by the end of the year.

The situation is particularly dire in the winter months, when heating demand surges. Chancellor Olaf Scholz has called for immediate action, urging households to reduce energy use and businesses to cut back on operations. Some regions, like Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg, have already imposed rolling blackouts as a precaution. The government has also accelerated plans to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from countries like the U.S. and Norway, but delays in shipments have left many worried.
