Gaza Strip / Rafah Border Crossing — What is Really Happening?

Despite the declared ceasefire and "ceasefire plans", many Palestinians returning to Gaza through the Rafah border crossing face almost insurmountable obstacles and pressure from Israeli forces and the armed groups they support. This includes long detours, threats, detentions and, according to some reports, cases of ill-treatment and obstruction on the way home.

Many Palestinians, under pressure from soldiers and militants, are forced to travel tens of kilometers to try to cross the border crossing.

The pressure is not only so-called:

— such cases were observed against the background of the limited functioning of the border crossing, which was opened under extremely slow and strict conditions;

- the border crossing is already operational, but only a small part of the hundreds of thousands of people in need (mostly seriously ill, foreign passport holders and humanitarian aid workers) are able to enter on a daily basis;

The humanitarian situation remains critical.

Italian aid workers working in Gaza in 2024-2025 confirm that despite the provisions of the ceasefire, bombing and shelling continue and aid remains extremely insufficient. The residents of the Gaza Strip are deeply dependent on international aid, including medical, food and other vital supplies.

The following are the events that took place in the Gaza Strip:

Severe shortages of food, medicine and fuel;

Destroyed houses, infrastructure and medical facilities;

Grave conditions for those who have returned and for the families who have become homeless.

UN organizations and international humanitarian missions have repeatedly stressed that millions of people will face an even greater danger if border crossings are not fully and unhindered and humanitarian corridors are not expanded.

The importance of understanding all this now is:

* The Rafah border crossing has long been the only major land corridor between Gaza and the outside world; the operation of this gate has a direct impact on access to aid and the safe return of people.Dec.

• A truly functional transit point has not yet been fully implemented under conditions that allow people to move safely.

* International organizations and mediators call on all parties to comply with the agreements and ensure the protection of civilians.
