Back in 2013, we published “ 8 Most Realistic Gay Sex Scenes in the Movies ,” but times have changed and there have been plenty other gay sex scenes that have graced both the big and small screens. We rounded up 11 that will surely get it a little hot in here, including scenes starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Bradley Cooper. But it’s not all about the steam factor. These are the scenes we feel get it right, because we deserve realistic sex scenes in our movies, too, dammit. With that being said: These are all NSFW, so play at your own risk.

Let’s be real. The state of queer sex scenes in movies is a little bleak. Not only are our queer and trans characters always played by straight and cis actors, but they are often scrubbed clean of sexual particularities, kinky proclivities, personalities, real bodies, brown bodies, and a whole other mess of missing things.
Creating a definitive list of the best queer sex scenes from movies, to be honest, was not that hard because there aren’t that many to choose from — or at least ones we can actually see. You see, “queer” movies always do this funny, quirky thing where they forget to put the sex in the sex scene, *cough* Call Me By Your Name *cough*. Anyway, enough about those movies. Here are the best queer sex scenes where the filmmakers remembered to put the sex in them.
A dark tent and a bit of spit were all this scene required to get the job done, yet it’s one of the only gay sex scenes anyone can ever name. I’m including it on this list because the film was part of a formative tide change in the queering of the film industry, despite being a mediocre movie. Also, the scene is very hot, and has been used as clandestine masturbation material for closeted teens everywhere, just for the glimpse of heath ledger’s side cheek. I can’t endorse the use of spit as lube, but y’all do y’all.
Oh, yes! That movie that every gay on the internet loved, but no one can really remember what it was about because it was kinda boring. Looking director Andrew Haigh did get his sex scenes right though, especially for this gorgeously realistic and honest moment between two men who meet up over the course of, wait for it, a weekend. The film finishes with one of the greatest blow job scenes in queer history, commenced by some consensual rough-housing.
Though the film is not even close to being as good as the book, the sex scene is a very fun one to watch because it’s playful and leans into the comedy of just how funny gay sex can be. Matt Smith, who plays the legendary author Christopher Isherwood, gets it so rough they knock over some pottery, and Matt cries out, “This is how I would like to die!” Hard same.
Gia was such an unapologetically erotic movie, but to be fair, truly anything Angelina Jolie does can be considered erotic. The sex scenes in this movie, however, are a tad on the safe side, but as a product of two hours and six minutes of sexual tension, I'd say they're worth it. One of my favorites is preceded by a scene where Jolie gets groped through a chain link fence, and tbh, that was almost as good as the sex scene itself.
The joy and horror of watching this sex scene between Mila Kunis and Natalie Portman in the psychopathic ballet thriller is noteworthy and deserves its spot on this list mostly because of its surrealistic, messed-up qualities. At a certain point, Mila lifts her head up from eating Natalie out only to reveal that she is in fact Natalie, and that Natalie is eating Natalie out. We’re all about self-love, girl!
The world is greatly lacking in trans sex scenes, but this Chilean film starring Daniela Vega as a woman working through the loss of her lover has one of my favorite in recent memory. Her relationship with her partner, who is much older than her, is so honest, beautiful, and tender — a quiet moment before an absolute storm of a movie. Plus, the scene is technically birthday sex, and who doesn’t love birthday sex?
A menage a trois turns into a ménages à trois turns into a ménages à dos in this queer Mexican classic depicting the friendship of two men that turns into something more. The scene eclipses in a way I wish it didn’t but the very real and beautiful hesitancy and shame in this moment is one I’ll remember forever.
God’s Own Country , or as I like to call it, Romanian Brokeback Mountain , is one of the most slept-on queer films from 2018. The sex scenes are also very sexy, but also feature a lot of heavy grunting, toxic masculinity, and very, very pale butts. My favorite sex scene, though, takes place in an outhouse. Porta potties are so arousing — news to me! (Again with the spit lube, though? Be practical.)
This movie is just proof that Canadians are just eras ahead of us in the quest for exquisite sex scenes. This Xavier Dolan film’s pivotal sexual moment happens when the two teen lovers are painting something together, and in a manic, rock music-backed scene, proceed to make love on a newspaper-covered floor, getting paint all over their bodies. Watch out for toxic chemicals, please!
Though this scene eclipses a bit too early for my taste, I will say Cate Blanchett carries erotic energy all the way through this movie. She is giving you momma bear vibes! She is giving you fur coats! But aside from that, Cate and her scene partner Rooney Mara create a very interesting power dynamic, and they do it so, so slowly, which just makes it sexier.
Rachel Weisz spitting into Rachel McAdam’s mouth! Rachel Weisz spitting into Rachel McAdam’s mouth! A lot of things happen in this recent drama telling the story of two lesbians pursuing their attraction to each other against the obstacle of their orthodox Jewish community, but aside from those things, Rachel Weisz spits into Rachel McAdam’s mouth!
In a sex scene that takes place on Christmas Day, we see Mya Taylor as a trans sex worker looking to make some coin with her buddy-buddy client, a loveable Armenian cab driver. What you think might be a bit of a seedy, contractual exchange turns into something funny and beautiful when the cabbie takes the two to a drive-through car wash. Shrowded in dappled light of the soapy liquid on the car windows, the cab driver gives Mya a blow job, and she rolls her eyes. Relatable!
People often forget that mutual handjobs are, indeed, sex. But that didn’t stop me from including Moonlight in this list, which features a tender and precious scene between two young men in one, ahem, seminal scene on the beach, fortifying a companionship that would mean something for decades to come.
If you’ve already seen The Handmaiden , prepare to divide your life into two parts. Life before seeing The Handmaiden , and life after seeing The Handmaiden . Aside from the fact that this Korean lesbian erotic period thriller (That’s right, I said lesbian erotic period thriller!) is a queer gem of a movie, the sex scenes are some of the best I’ve ever seen on a screen. One standout, though, is the final scene which depicts — well, I’m not gonna tell you, but let’s just say it involves a string of large, silver jingle bells.
Told inside the story of the AIDS crisis as it occured in Paris, the (very hot) activists that lead this film have deeply fulfilling sex lives that paint HIV positivity without stigma, and pair sex with very honest depictions of what it meant to be a person living with AIDS at that time. There are so many incredible sex scenes, I had a hard time just picking one, but I will say that the final scene is so beautiful that it brought me to tears — and it's a handjob! A handjob brought me to tears!

When I was younger, most LGBTQ sex scenes I saw didn't show much beyond two people passionately making out, a little hand-over-the-crotch action, and tight shots of faces moaning. (They were all PG-13—maybe the R-rated ones were a little more gratuitous, but I was too nervous to search for them on my family computer.) As a gay teenager still in the closet, these muted portrayals of queer sexuality only furthered the idea that my identity was something I needed to hide.
Thankfully, as cinematography has evolved, so has mainstream media's portrayal of intimacy across the spectrum of sexuality. Here for it? Yes, I am. My hope is that these graphic, raw sex scenes will help those still exploring their identities to understand their sexualities are completely normal, no matter who they prefer.
It's gotten to that point where these days, sex scenes on Netflix can be more of a turn-on for me than actual porn. Don't get it twisted: Porn is great when I want to see straight-up nudity and pretend that I don't need buckets of lube to make anal sex pleasurable. But there's something really erotic about watching a sexual relationship blossom after a romantic (often dramatic) series of events that don't begin with a boring porn opener like, "Hey, I'm Tyler—want to f*ck?"
Here, I've rounded up TV shows and films with the best sex scenes on Netflix featuring LGBTQ couples. Full disclosure: As a gay man, I have absolutely zero authority over whether the female stimulation depicted is accurate—or fun. So if you have strong feelings about anything below, I'm all ears. In the meantime, I'm going to clear my Netflix queue before my next GNI (gays' night in).
There's no way my words can do this groundbreaking TV series justice. Between 2004 and 2009, The L Word gave the world a modern view into lesbian lives.
If the promise of sensual sex scenes isn't enticing enough for you to give it a try (do yourself a favor and watch the scene in the first episode where Bette and Tina hook up), the show's nuanced depiction of lesbian culture might be.
I'm not a woman, and I've never been to prison, so I can't attest to the reality of OINTB 's countless sex scenes. But I can say there's something about the raw clitoral stimulation sequences—especially the ones that aren't set to any background music—that stirs something inside me.
Sounds a bit like a gay cliché, but this 2015 film (which is also based on a memoir by Australian actor Timothy Conigrave) highlights the romance between a high school drama student and classic jock.
In one particular car sex scene, they utter the words "Ahh, gentle," and "Slowly—I said slowly!" while attempting to have anal sex for the first time. Doesn't sound very sexy, right? That's what made it so memorable.
Anal sex requires a fair amount of coordination with a partner to make sure the partner on the receiving end is OK. This scene was the most realistic in the movie. As a bonus, there are plenty of others that are major turn-ons, too.
I’m just going to say it: There isn’t enough anilingus in TV and movie sex scenes. So you can imagine my surprise that the very first episode of this hit show features some good ol’ fashion ass-eating. And luckily for us all, that was only the first of many sex scenes throughout the show. Thank you, Shonda Rhimes .
Normally, when I'm searching for a sexy LGBTQ movie, I fast-forward to the good parts. Don't judge me—we've all done it. Scout's honor, I have never been more aroused by two women having sex than from this movie. The sex scene I watched to conduct "research" for this article lasted more than five minutes.
Sex scenes normally last maybe two minutes in cinema. This scene did not cut corners. Instead, it walked me through the initial body contact to foreplay to eventual intercourse. Because there was no rush to finish , my senses had more time to really focus on the passion and the deep connection between the women. Emotions combined with a drawn-out sex sequence make for an intense experience.
The Netflix series premiered in 2015 and made waves for its trippy storyline about eight psychically linked strangers. Unfortunately, the show has since been canceled, but it featured one of the hottest orgy scenes I've ever seen on the small screen. Need I say more?
You know how in porn it seems like every guy has incredible stamina that keeps him going until the 23-minute long video is over? Well, as many of us know, that happening IRL is a rare sexual phenomenon.
In this 2016 dramatic comedy movie, there's a scene where one guy goes limp while another dude is riding him. It actually made me scream, "Yes! So real! So accurate!" They never finished—which has likely happened to us all more times than we'd like to admit. People You May Kno w may not be the hottest movie in a conventional sense, but it was incredibly relatable—and kind of sexy in an earnest way.
This movie is a total queer hidden gem, not just for its understated sex scene but also for its sweet love story. The love scene will give you all the feels about first-time love and exploration. Plus, the love interest is a rare find: an androgynous person in a genre usually filled with ultra-femme couples.
Similar to The L Word , Lip Service follows the love lives of a group of lesbians, so there are plenty of sex scenes throughout. As an added bonus, there are sex toys galore, which never get enough screentime IMO.
Since it first premiered in 2011, Shameless has captivated its loyal audience with the Gallagher family's dysfunctional antics.
TBH, I haven't really kept up with this show lately. But I do know that Ian and Mickey's early relationship—though devastating in so many ways—had a few sexual moments that made me glad to have watched this Showtime series alone.
In one heartbreaking scene, Ian and Mickey are having sex when Mickey's dad walks in, beats them both, and forces Mickey to have sex with a woman as Ian watches. Brutal, but honest. I couldn't take my eyes off the screen. While the circumstances aren't the sexiest, the big risk (and larger thrill) of inviting someone over while your parents are home rang way too true for me.
It probably won’t come as a surprise that a movie about a wealthy yet unhappy woman who seeks out the services of a female escort has its fair share of hot sex scenes. Like, we’re talking a lot of cunnilingus .

Billy Eichner thinks the sex scenes in his new movie, Bros , push the envelope––in a good way.

"To this day, I'm waiting for someone at the studio to call me and go, 'You know, now that we think about it, you've gone too far.' But it never happened," Eichner, 43, says in this week's Variety cover story . "There's part of me that realized some of this would be eye-opening for certain people in the audience, and I loved that too."

He continued, "I was like, 'Great! Let's surprise people. Let's shock them.' Sacha Baron Cohen doesn't worry about that — why should I?"

Eichner, who co-wrote the Universal Pictures film with Neighbors filmmaker Nicholas Stoller, headlines an all-LGBTQ cast in a movie touted as the "first romantic comedy from a major studio about two gay men maybe, possibly, probably, stumbling towards love. Maybe. They're both very busy."

The movie also stars Luke Macfarlane , Ts Madison , Monica Raymund , Guillermo Díaz , Guy Branum and Amanda Bearse.

"Hollywood took a century to make this film," Eichner told Variety . "That's not my fault — that's Hollywood's fault for taking this f—--- long."

Yet the Billy on the Street alum admitted that he also feels pressure for the movie to succeed.

"I feel a responsibility for it to do well," he said. "I've worked so hard on it, I care so much about it, and I want it to do well for the sake of the LGBTQ stories getting green-lit. So there's a burden I feel, much as I want to sit here and just talk about how funny the movie is."

Earlier this week, in an appearance at MTV's Video Music Awards, he touted the movie—and couldn't resist getting a little political.
