So Monster Girl Quest is actually an eroge but it's really good. It's suppose to show a typical "hero fights demon king" jrpg story but with an adult twist. i haven't played anything like this 'typical story.' do you know any good ones? ones where the focused is very much on the main character, the "hero", and not like a party you start out with? so yeah, something like a very hero-centric rpg. something like a lone adventurer perhaps, and not party based.
Sadly, no - there aren't many JRPGs that aren't party-based. The only one I can think of off-hand is NieR, but that's more an action game like Demon's Souls than a traditional JRPG. You might like the Etrian Odyssey games; you fight with a party, but story-wise they function as a single entity. And last, if you don't mind the fact that they are online, I've had fun with a couple MMOs playing them as though they were a single-player game; Guild Wars 2 and FFXIV: A Realm Reborn were very hero-centric, with decent stories. (and the first has no monthly fee and the second is easily beatable within the free trial period)
Hey there OP, those guys don't know what they're talking about. Play Kamidori: Alchemy Meister, there's a full english translation, it's a big game, but until chapter 4 I think, there's nothing 18+. If you prefer dungeon crawler style, there are other games but almost nothing is translated. If you're interested in those tell me and I'll search a couple of titles, because I don't remember them at the moment, and I wouldn't want to search for them only for you to disregard them :P. Alchemy meister though, GREAT GAME even without the ecchi stuff
do you have like a list of hidden eroge gems somewhere?
The obvious one that's popping into my head is the Souls games (Demon's/Dark Souls). It's not quite the same thing since the hero doesn't have that much of a story, though.
The main problem is that the nature of eroges is that it's supposed to be a solo experience (given the nature of games like that), while other RPGs use extra party members as characters to flush out the story. You can add a heck of a lot more dialogue when your character's travelling with friends than you can when the hero is going solo. Plus, Monster Girl Quest makes the enemies you face into actual characters instead of throwaway murder fodder. I'm sure someone more versed in RPGs than me will think of something, but I'm not getting any ideas from all of the ones I've played.
The main entries in Shin Megami Tensei series comes to mind. The stories tend to be strongly focused on the main characters (who ironically also tend to be enigmatic nearly-silent protagonists,) particularly in SMT1 and SMT2, and rather than there being an inseparable 'party' the other characters are people with their own goals and motivations, who just have reasons to fight together with the protagonists for a while - it's a series tradition that several will abandon you and become your enemies depending on which path you choose.
And of course, there's the enemy demons, many of whom you can convince to leave you alone or lend you their strength instead of fighting them. The demon conversations are kind of shallow and incoherent, but it's more than most RPGs do.
Demon's Souls reminds me of the Witcher because of its darkness, and also Fable except they're not japanese. I also know this jrpg action game where you play this red haired guy and also brave fencer musashi. Lone adventure types seem more popular in action jrpg and not turn based or something like MGQ where every encounter is meaningful and not just fodder.
Recettear: An Item Shop's Tale maybe? You can only play one character at a time in dungeons, there is a focus on a main character, but its very heavily into running a shop.
