Whether its the abrupt, brutal deaths of major characters, the Machiavellian plot machinations or the sudden realisation that you really havent seen it all, barely an episode goes by without an incident that leaves the more sensitive souls among us on the brink of tapping out. And then, of course, theres the carnal carnival of sex and nudity. As a wise man once said (and it was surely a man), sex sells. The number of complaints raised over the bounty of flesh on display in every outpost of the Seven Kingdoms has only been exceeded by the murmurs of discontent about the reduced number of such scenes as the shows gone on. While its true that there appears to be less explicit content these days than was the case in earlier episodes, Game of Thrones will never likely be labelled prudish. Whats more, the show responsible for 'sexposition' entering the modern lexicon has played its nudey cards wisely. At times arguably gratuitous, in other moments offering a peek through a fogged up window on the sordid secrets of its myriad characters, and sometimes simply to shock you into silence, the shows nude scenes have received more press column inches (ahem) than a J-Law phone hack. So whether your poison is Wildlings Gone Wild or Lancest or just actual poison (we recommend Tears of Lys easier to swallow than the strangler), the truth is often laid bare in Game of Thrones, and never to more shocking effect than in the following moments. Game of Thrones is a famously naked show. Its graphic nudity and racy sex scenes have been widely discussed (and criticized ) since it premiered. Guest star Ian McShane notoriously referred to it as a show about "tits and dragons." Jason Momoa once joked to EW about his time as Khal Drogo: "I think I'm naked more than I talk." So just how much has the show actually bared? Celebrity nude scene tracker Mr. Skin cataloged seven seasons of nakedness to find out.
According to Mr. Skin's calculations (link is SFW), Game of Thrones has featured a whopping 82 nude scenes out of 67 episodes that have aired so far. Women were naked 61 times, while men were naked just 21 times, including seven instances of full-frontal male nudity ( hello Hodor! ), both real and prosthetic.
After starting its run with 19 nude scenes in its first season, Game of Thrones has featured significantly less nudity in recent years. Even with Jon and Daenerys' steamy boat sex scene , season 7 was the least revealing so far with just six nude scenes. Season 6 also stayed fairly covered up with just eight shots of nudity, including the Mother of Dragons' epic fire-goddess nude scene . Somewhat ironically, season 5–the one where King's Landing finds religion–was the most naked since the show's premiere season, including Cersei's disturbing Walk of Shame, which was performed by a body double.
For all its nudity, Game of Thrones falls behind several other shows when it comes to the total number of nude scenes. The bare-naked champ is Shameless with 238 nude scenes out of 110 episodes in the series so far. Also more naked than GoT : True Blood (137 nude scenes out of 80 total episodes), The Girls Next Door (129 nude–albeit blurred out–scenes out of 91 total episodes), The L Word (106 nude scenes out of 70 total episodes), Masters of Sex (92 nude scenes out of 46 total episodes), and Girls (89 nude scenes out of 62 total episodes).
With just six episodes in its final season , Game of Thrones will have to pack a lot of nudity into the impending big battle for it to end its run much higher on the list. It’s been more than three years since HBO’s Game of Thrones aired its fiery finale, and we still have to wait until the end of this August for the first episode of the network’s prequel, House of the Dragon, to light up our screens once more. Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones , House of the Dragon is expected to focus on the ancestors of GoT ’s mad queen/mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen. And what about the book series? Author George R.R. Martin is famously slow, and there’s no set date for when we can expect the next novel, The Winds of Winter , although there are rumors that late 2023 is the earliest fans will be able to get their hands on a copy.
So what’s a GoT fan to do in the meantime? We can always rewatch the original series—this time without the year-plus waits in between seasons to make us forget who everyone is. Or, we can just fast forward to the hottest Game of Thrones sex scenes. GoT is known for its sexual violence (which we’re skipping for obvious reasons) as well as gratuitous nudity. Although we do have a couple of brothel scenes on our list, in revisiting the show, we also found there’s more actual love-making and sex positivity than we remember. A secret grotto, lots of cozy fur, a hot spring for a postcoital dip…this has to be the best setting for a GoT love scene ever. Plus, it turns out Ygritte’s assessment that “you know nothing, Jon Snow” is not quite accurate: The previously celibate Jon Snow does, in fact, know something about, um, pleasuring a woman orally. “I just wanted to kiss you there is all,” he says. Swoon! Wildling Ygritte is one of our favorite strong, female characters on GoT , and that she gets to have a “female gaze” moment with the ultimate hero of the show makes this moment extra hot.
Before she becomes a queen and the mother of dragons, Daeneyrs Targaryen was sold in marriage to the barbaric leader of the Dothraki, Khal Drogo. Although his brutality extends to the bedroom in the beginning of their relationship, Daenerys learns to wield her sexuality as a force to assert herself and gain more power in her marriage. In this scene, she gets on top for the first time and comes (literally) into her own.
Let’s forget for a second that we learn she’s actually his aunt at the same time we’re watching these two have sex. Much later in the series, after Khal Drogo and Ygritte’s deaths, leaders Jon Snow and Daenerys form a strong connection. The scene in which they finally make love is the, err, climax, of their attraction and mutual respect—plus, we get to see Jon Snow’s butt!
These two hotties fall in love on the battlefield, where he is fighting as Lord of Winterfell and she is helping injured men as a healer. Although he is betrothed to someone else, they can’t help themselves, and end up having sex on the floor after a somewhat prolonged undressing due to so many laces up the front of his leather shirt.
There’s nothing sexier than true love. Now married, these two get it on again, followed by some lovely butt-viewing, naked letter-writing and Talisa revealing to Robb she isexpecting his child. He professes his love, and they head in for round two. Unfortunately, upon repeat viewing, her good news is overshadowed by knowledge of the fate of this lovely couple at the infamous Red Wedding two episodes later.
The commander of Daenerys’s army and Khaleesi’s closest advisor had a slow burn over several seasons. If it seemed their growing love for each other might be complicated by the fact that he had been castrated, it turns out it’s not: In fact, her insistence that she see his body, and her acceptance of him for who he is, is part of what makes this scene so romantic . He then expresses his vulnerable, tender love by pleasuring her orally, which only adds to the intensity of the scene.
