That scene with Yara was a big moment for the show.
It only took six seasons, but Game of Thrones finally just revealed its first lesbian major character. Yara, Theon Greyjoy's sister (who should really be ruling those dreary miserable Iron Islands), forced her brother to chug a beer while she hooked up with a woman in the tavern on Sunday's episode. It's a casual reveal for a show that has typically used sexuality as a plot device. But it also adds another layer to the relationship with Theon, who has been mutilated by Ramsay.
In earlier seasons, Loras Tyrell, known as one of the finest jousters in the Seven Kingdoms, was secretly in a romantic relationship with Renly Baratheon. Back in Kings Landing, Loras is currently being held by the High Sparrow for the relationship. (Ellaria Sand, Oberyn Martell's wife, was likely bisexual.) Loras' sexuality has come to be the defining aspect of his character, which has become the driving factor of many of the events in Kings Landing. Maybe Game of Thrones ' writers should just leave the explanation of Yara's sexuality there, as it did so gracefully with Oberyn Martell.
