The sex on “ Game of Thrones ” has been the topic of much discussion throughout the first two seasons of the hit HBO series. It has sparked debate about gender roles and sexism on TV , inspired critic Myles McNutt to coin the term “sexposition" –- using sex as a backdrop for exposition about back story or character motives -- and earned a spoof on "Saturday Night Live" for its gratuitous nudity. The Huffington Post thought it was time to look at the show's breadth of sex scenes to figure out if " Game of Thrones " is the non-stop T & A ... and P fest it's made out to be.
After going through the entire series looking for every instance of sex and nudity, The Huffington Post discovered that in 20 hours of material, there is just a little over 15 minutes of, literal and figurative, naughty bits.
Watch the full compilation below to see what all the fuss is about.

Sex is prevalent in Game of Thrones, but the show has only ever had one “real” moment of passion over the past seven seasons.
There are a lot of sex scenes in Game of Thrones, but there is only one truly sexy sex scene in the show’s entire run.
This is the one scene that isn’t about titillation, shock value, or a power struggle.
Instead, it’s actually about love. Real love, full of pent up passion finally being released, and on display without anything desperate in the subtext or dreadful on the horizon.
It is ‘the cave’ scene from Season 3, Episode 5, titled ‘Kissed by Fire’.
Altogether, it’s just a three and a half minute sequence, but it's the show’s one ode to real romance.
After weeks of flirting — in a very Hepburn/Tracy way, but with a feral Clan of the Cave Bear twist — Ygritte (Rose Leslie) finally finds a way to get Jon Snow (Kit Harington) alone.
She lures the noble boy into a cave outfitted with hot springs by stealing his beloved sword.
As soon as they’re there, she drops the sword and reveals her true purpose; she wants him to break his beloved vow of celibacy with her.
It’s more than just a test of Jon’s allegiance. Ygritte makes this clear as soon as she takes off her bear-like fur coat, revealing a feminine shift underneath.
She takes this off and says that she wants him to see her … all of her. This implies that Ygritte doesn’t just want sex from Jon, but understanding.
The boy tries to resist, but can’t, and a wild kiss, complete with lip tugging, gives way to surrender.
The show has always been comfortable with sex, but the cave scene is the only time it shows any interest in the realm of romance.
While Daenerys and Khal Drogo have their sweeter moments, the sex they have in Season 1 is more about her character development.
It heats up only after she learns how to take control.
Last season we saw Grey Worm and Missandei reveal their love for one another, but that sex scene was undercut by dread.
He was departing for battle and the show also didn’t know quite how to handle his eunuch status.
So the scene was tender, but also awkward.
Jon and Dany’s sex scene on the boat is intercut with the revelation that he is her nephew, and Robb’s romance with Talisa lacks the literal fire of Jon and Ygritte’s big cave scene.
The cave scene also plays with traditional romance in an almost shockingly sincere way for the cynical Game of Thrones.
We see Ygritte fully nude, but briefly, because the focus isn’t on her body, but the bond she and Jon will now share. The cave is warmly lit with flickering flames, and the sequence ends with a lovers’ embrace in a hot spring.
The whole scene feels like it was cut from another show, something akin to Outlander, but it’s right smack in the middle of Game of Thrones ’ run.
The disparity between the romance in this scene and what we usually get on the show only heightens the arc of the swoon the audience is meant to fall into.
Of course, Jon and Ygritte were doomed. This is Game of Thrones , after all.
No good thing exists except to be trampled.
But for one brief moment in Season 3, those crazy kids got away from the madness and violence gripping Westeros, and they had fun banging in a cave.
They’ll always have that, and we will, too.

COVID-19 has forced author George R.R. Martin to churn out more pages in his long-awaited Game Of Thrones book six, pushing forward the release date. But that’s two years too late after the TV series went its own way, Duncan Lay writes.
He was killed off in season four but that didn’t stop Charles Dance enjoying further seasons of Game of Thrones. That is, until the finale came along.
Information from the casting call for the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel has disclosed who the leading characters will be.

Looking for the best 'Game of Thrones' sex scenes? These videos feature lovemaking between favorite couples like Jaime and Cersei.
It’s been more than three years since HBO’s Game of Thrones aired its fiery finale, and we still have to wait until the end of this August for the first episode of the network’s prequel, House of the Dragon, to light up our screens once more. Set 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones , House of the Dragon is expected to focus on the ancestors of GoT ’s mad queen/mother of dragons, Daenerys Targaryen. And what about the book series? Author George R.R. Martin is famously slow, and there’s no set date for when we can expect the next novel, The Winds of Winter , although there are rumors that late 2023 is the earliest fans will be able to get their hands on a copy.
So what’s a GoT fan to do in the meantime? We can always rewatch the original series—this time without the year-plus waits in between seasons to make us forget who everyone is. Or, we can just fast forward to the hottest Game of Thrones sex scenes. GoT is known for its sexual violence (which we’re skipping for obvious reasons) as well as gratuitous nudity. Although we do have a couple of brothel scenes on our list, in revisiting the show, we also found there’s more actual love-making and sex positivity than we remember. Take a peek below at the best Game of Thrones sex scenes. Caution: NSFW (unless you’re working from home), and spoilers ahead!
A secret grotto, lots of cozy fur, a hot spring for a postcoital dip…this has to be the best setting for a GoT love scene ever. Plus, it turns out Ygritte’s assessment that “you know nothing, Jon Snow” is not quite accurate: The previously celibate Jon Snow does, in fact, know something about, um, pleasuring a woman orally. “I just wanted to kiss you there is all,” he says. Swoon! Wildling Ygritte is one of our favorite strong, female characters on GoT , and that she gets to have a “female gaze” moment with the ultimate hero of the show makes this moment extra hot.
Before she becomes a queen and the mother of dragons, Daeneyrs Targaryen was sold in marriage to the barbaric leader of the Dothraki, Khal Drogo. Although his brutality extends to the bedroom in the beginning of their relationship, Daenerys learns to wield her sexuality as a force to assert herself and gain more power in her marriage. In this scene, she gets on top for the first time and comes (literally) into her own.
Let’s forget for a second that we learn she’s actually his aunt at the same time we’re watching these two have sex. Much later in the series, after Khal Drogo and Ygritte’s deaths, leaders Jon Snow and Daenerys form a strong connection. The scene in which they finally make love is the, err, climax, of their attraction and mutual respect—plus, we get to see Jon Snow’s butt!
These two hotties fall in love on the battlefield, where he is fighting as Lord of Winterfell and she is helping injured men as a healer. Although he is betrothed to someone else, they can’t help themselves, and end up having sex on the floor after a somewhat prolonged undressing due to so many laces up the front of his leather shirt.
There’s nothing sexier than true love. Now married, these two get it on again, followed by some lovely butt-viewing, naked letter-writing and Talisa revealing to Robb she isexpecting his child. He professes his love, and they head in for round two. Unfortunately, upon repeat viewing, her good news is overshadowed by knowledge of the fate of this lovely couple at the infamous Red Wedding two episodes later.
The commander of Daenerys’s army and Khaleesi’s closest advisor had a slow burn over several seasons. If it seemed their growing love for each other might be complicated by the fact that he had been castrated, it turns out it’s not: In fact, her insistence that she see his body, and her acceptance of him for who he is, is part of what makes this scene so romantic . He then expresses his vulnerable, tender love by pleasuring her orally, which only adds to the intensity of the scene.
Our favorite incestuous brother-sister lovers have passionate “don’t care if anyone walks in” sex on a table in this scene. Cersei has just told her father she won’t marry the man he wants her to, and she is totally fine with the whole world knowing about her relationship with her brother. She tells Jaime, “I choose you… I love my brother.” Even if it’s totally strange, it’s also kind of beautiful how they are owning their unconventional feelings for each other.
The sex scene that started it all! There’s no question that Cersei and Jaime’s illicit lovemaking in a secret tower is hot. Unfortunately, it’s also witnessed by young Bran Stark, who is promptly noticed by the twins/lovers. Then, Jaime makes the decision that will drive the rest of the series, pushing Bran out of the window to fall to the ground below. “The things I do for love,” he says.
A counterpoint to Jaime’s twisted relationship with Cersei is his bond with the honorable knight Lady Brienne, one of the best female characters on the show. Their respect for each other grows into romantic feelings, and she gives him her virginity in this sweet scene. But Jaime can’t quite rise to the occasion—well, he can in the physical sense, but he still can’t get over his sister. After they make love, he sadly abandons Brienne to go to Cersei, who is in danger.
The “Red Woman” Melisandre is alluring in a powerful, mystical yet creepy way, and uses her sexuality to get what she wants: In this case, the conception of a shadow monster that will murder Stannis’ brother in order for Stannis to have a shot at the throne (yep, really). So, she seduces him right on top of the Painted Table battle map, as little model soldiers fall to the ground.
Jaime and Cersei’s brother Tyrion and his secret lover Shae are another one of the sweetest couples on the show. Tyrion professes that he’s been with no one else since they’ve been together (that’s basically a declaration of love on GoT ). So after some lightly jealous banter, she decides to show her commitment by pleasuring him.
This scene is a bit strange given that we’ve known Arya since she was a kid. But if you haven’t seen the earlier seasons, or can appreciate her for the woman she has become, there’s something very sensual about how she takes charge of her sexuality and decides she wants to lose her virginity to her old friend Gendry before the big battle, just in case she doesn’t make it through.
Game of Thrones also featured gay relationships, most notably between Renly and Loras, who will become his brother-in-law (side note: Ever the practical one, Renly’s wife, Margaery, later suggests Loras assist in their lovemaking so she can get pregnant). In this scene, the couple talks about why Renly should be king while Loras provocatively shaves Renly’s chest. After unlacing his pants, he then proceeds to give him oral sex.
File this scene under sweet and loving if not overtly sexy. After the always loyal Sam defends Gilly and gets injured, she gives him tender loving care of the most intimate nature . These two have one of the truest relationships on the show, so we were always cheering for them to get it on. As Sam exclaims, “Oh my!”
In the same episode, we see Dany enjoying her first lover after the death of Khal Drogo: her advisor, Daario. The two have some tender pillow talk, a marriage proposal, brief sex followed by snuggles and talks about how to rule the world. Although they’re a hot couple, in the next season she decides to go conquer Westeros on her own.
The Dornish prince Oberyn and his lover Ellaria prefer having sex in groups with both men and women. Olyvar, the young stud who runs the brothel, is happy to oblige, and while they enjoy their orgy Oberyn explains how he seeks to have sex with as many people as possible before he dies (if you remember his violent end, you’ll appreciate this perspective).
In the first couple of seasons, Theon Greyjoy has sex with pretty much anything that moves. This scene very graphically depicts his voracious sexual appetite, as he gets it on with the daughter of the captain of the ship that’s taking him back home to the Iron Islands. There’s no love, just lust here—as well as a surprising amount of conversation.
Sadistic Ramsay Bolton and his equally fiendish girlfriend Myranda are having very loud, woman-on-top sex with a little erotic asphyxiation, while unbeknownst to them, Theon’s sister Yara Greyjoy is mounting a stealth attack on the castle to rescue Theon, who’s being held captive. Appearing shirtless and covered in blood, Ramsay tells Yara, “This is turning into a lovely evening.”
Back before he gave his sister Daenerys to the Dothraki, Viserys Targaryen had some hot bathtub sex with Dany’s handmaiden, Doreah. There’s steamy water, hot candle wax dripping on his chest, and dirty talk about…dragons? Yep, in that odd way GoT has of mixing exposition with sex (a.k.a. “sexposition”), we learn all about the hist
