A bizarre new alleged cryptocurrency scam has been discovered, and it’s got a fake endorsement from Prince Charles at its heart. Or should that be Mark Robert?
Wind Wide Coin has allegedly been trying to trick people into investing in cryptocurrencies by fabricating client profiles that use the images of instantly-recognisable public figures Prince Charles, Jennifer Aniston and… Matti Vanhanen (the former Prime Minister of Finland).
However, on the company’s website, Prince Charles was listed as “Mark Robert” and Jennifer Aniston became “Kate Jennifer”, CoinDesk reports .
The Houston-based operation was this week slapped with a cease-and-desist order by the Texas State Security Board, which, amongst other things, accuses it of of misleading investors with fraudulent claims.
Wind Wide Coin allegedly claimed on its website that investors “can’t lose money”, and that “there is no risk”. As Bitcoin’s 2018 price fluctuations have shown, those claims aren’t particularly accurate.
With the royal wedding set to take place this weekend, an actual royal-themed cryptocurrency has been created, called The Royal Coin (ROYL).
