I had an alternator fail on my 2006 Mercury Grand Marquis. The failure mode was that the voltage regulator was stopped regulating the voltage, so that I was getting some really crazy things happening like the Instrument Panel and Electronic Temperature Control going totally black. When I came to a stop, they would light up again. After getting home, I opened the hood and the battery was spitting out water from being overcharged. I hooked up my VOM up and read around 16.5 Volts, which is much higher than the expected 13 - 14 Volts. Using my FORSCAN software, I read that the Instrument Cluster had some protective circuitry that was causing it to shut down. There is one other diagnosis for these alternators. Disconnect the three wire pigtail that leads to it. Rev the engine to about 4,000 RPM for three seconds to simulate wide open throttle. The Ford alternator was designed to self-regulate at 13.5 volts until you shut the engine off. I was reading 16.5 volts. Initially I tried an AutoZone Alternator and it was acting up just like the one I replaced. You cannot buy a new Motorcraft Alternator. This Delco manufactured one seems to be OEM quality. It is very affordable and available with overnight delivery. Put it in my car and it fixed all the problems I was having. This is the part to get for these cars and trucks.
I made this work, but the connectors were shifted over about 10-15 degrees in the wrong direction. Had to undo wiring harness, so that wires would reach. The stupid for the main power wire was I believe a #10 but the original was 1/4”. The plastic around the terminal was also smaller, so I had to file down the terminal ring. This also meant the dust cap does not fit tightly around the rubber seal. I debated on sending this back, but my car needed an alternator.

Fit my 2008 Grand Marquis Perfect. The connector (covered by a red boot) that your cars power wire attaches to was bent during shipment. Luckily I just removed that part from my old alternator and switched it. Other than that I have no complaints. In my opinion this part/brand is superior to the local auto part store off brands, and it was much cheaper!

I really don't know if it's working properly. A new battery was installed, then this alternator. It seems that the alternator is not completely charging the battery. Both have tested as good. I hardly drive the car this was installed in. So, it's possible parasitic drain is the culprit. I do recommend the alternator. For the brand name, reputation, type, and price, I don't think any other product can do better.
Ford/Motorcraft no longer makes this alternator. (This AC Delco alternator is not stamped on the back with the Motorcraft logo like in the product picture.) I had the Lincoln dealer replace the alternator on my 2008 Town Car (~80K miles) in September. They used a unit sourced from O'Reilly's. Since then the headlights would briefly flicker at night while stopped at stop signs/lights. The headlights, radio, and instrument panel would also cut out under hard acceleration. I replaced that alternator myself with the AC Delco unit. Took 30 minutes. Fits perfectly and has solved the headlight flicker and hard acceleration issues.

It is an alternator lol it does its job. Fit my 07 Grand Marquis perfectly and havent had any issues out of it. Cheaper on here than the parts store and even rock auto and if your a prime member it has fast and free shipping. If I ever need another one I'll definitely buy it again.
