I feel bad for those other seniors, old timers trying to enjoy hockey and they have to battle against Foppa in the corners.

E. Oh it's pond hockey, well i still feel bad for them.

Selänne turns 53 this summer and is in great shape, still skates every now and then, maybe he should join Foppa.

I know I'm old when kids these days tell me "Floppa" was never a thing

Lol people already confused Sweden and Switzerland and it will only get worse now. Forsberg lives and plays in Switzerland right now, but he is from SWEDEN.

What's crazy to me is that even 7-8 years out of the league, the ex-NHLers I've played competitive beer league against have been way better than all but one or two of the young kids who are fresh out of the CHL or NCAA D1.

A few years ago at an alumni game I got to play against a current NHL player who was coming off a 40 goal season and he was on a whole other level. I actually made a nice glove save on him on a breakaway, but the couple of goals he did score on me were absolutely absurd.

Yeah I don't remember that at all. Even going back and watching dozens of old games over the years I never saw it happen . Not doubting it happened but it seems unlikely he was doing it very often.

He still has it, cause he is shredding a senior men's league?

In 05-06 the Flyers signed Forsberg to a two year deal with an AAV of $5.75m. Under the current cap, that would be an AAV of $12.16m. Only McDavid has a higher AAV than that currently.

Despite his foot problems, he still scored 75 points in 60 games, in his first season in Philly. His P/GP of 1.25 is the best by a Flyer since the 2005 lockout, just edging out Giroux's 102 points in 82 game season in 17-18.

I watched hockey all through the 2000s and don’t recall this being a thing. Was it something Stars or Red Wings fans called him? Would make sense.

Sounds like this is something made up by the fans of 2 teams, I had never heard of this.

I have played against lots of former NHLers in men's leagues in the past.

Those are the moments when you realize you really DIDN't have what it takes to play in the NHL. One guy played into his late 50s and was still one of the best players in the league. We are not talking beer league, we are talking full contact.

Pfft, bunch of randoms trying to turn a (quite) weird thread about a former PWF/playmaking legend playing ice hockey vs seniors into him being a big diver is what this forum’s turned into I guess. Also, when people come up with quotes and examples of why he could suddenly fall down, they just simply ignore it since it doesn’t fit their world view.

I bet he dove one or twice, just like everyone, but at least he did it when defenders where allowed to use him as a sled dog. 99% of the time he battled threw that and either scored or set someone up for a goal at the same time. Haters

That's called cognitive dissonance.

My best friend was an Avs fan (mostly due to Roy), but even he would get kind of irritated during games.

There were even memes back then of him being awarded diving medals in the Olympics and such. You don't get a league wide nickname like that for nothing. It was a problem, whether you choose to ignore it or not.

"Forsberg once had 20 points in 4 games!" is going to come up in a poll now.

Cross-checking him first chance I get to establish dominance.

Haha exactly. This is a guy who had his spleen ruptured during a playoff game from repeated crosschecks by a 6'6 barbarian and had to be rushed to the hospital before he died, played through more injuries and obstruction than basically anyone while constantly dominating. This board is really funny when it comes to Forsberg.

On the flipside I find it funny there's a handful of people trying to erase the history of Forsberg's diving. It was a known thing.

As I mentioned earlier, the Avs rivalry years are long since gone. It's not out of hate for Forsberg. I understand it more now looking back on that dead puck era and the crap players had to put up with. The amount of hooking was insane. The guy was a beast whose career was hampered by injuries. But he also had a well earned rep as a diver in an era where that sort of thing wasn't as accepted as it is now.

I remember the nickname, and I remember thinking it was overplayed.
But perhaps what you just said explains both - that he dove at all in the 90s was enough (likely combined with how effective he was in high profile games) for the moniker. I think for anyone looking through a post 2005 lens, they arent going to even see his dives as bad dives - certainly they weren’t theatrical like Kesler, Marchand, early Sid, and so many more. If he played exactly the same in 2010 as he did in 98, he wouldn’t even be mentioned as a diver. But the fact that he was notably strong and ’went down easy’ sometimes was enough to raise eyebrows then, I think.

I think once he was basically playing on one leg from 2002 on he gained a reputation for diving? I don't really remember it either but apparently it happened lol, I don't really think he was intentionally diving.

my favourite part about that spleen thing is him begging the coach and GM to let him play, in full knowledge that he might die.

what a p***y.

Lol I can’t count how many games I watched where the announcers were going on about how “strong he is on his skates” and then 2 minutes later someone touches him and he flops like he got shot by a sniper in the 300 level seats. Floppa.

The talk about diving had no bearing but became a ”truth” by time which shows one of the shitty parts of Internet and social media. Now even people who never watched games believe he dived.

Peter Forsberg and the Flyers recently insinuated Sidney Crosby took dives. Terry Frei's response: hey, look in the mirror.

The Flyers' Peter Forsberg recently pantomimed a diving motion to make fun of Sidney Crosby , implying the Penguins' prized rookie, in some situations, didn't exactly need to be struck by a wayward Zamboni to be sent to the ice.

Even if Forsberg's charge were accurate, this is roughly akin to American Olympic diver Greg Louganis telling China's Bo Peng, one of his gold-medal successors: "Shame, shame, shame on you for diving."

And Crosby could shock Forsberg by coming back with this: "Om man förstår sig själv förstår man andra." (Which means, literally, "If one understands oneself, one understands others." Or "Oh, yeah? Takes one to know one, Foppa!")

There are times the incredibly sturdy Forsberg can't be knocked off the puck by anyone or anything. As great a player as he is, when it serves his purpose he still suddenly has the strength of balsa wood and the balance of a sailor at the end of a 48-hour leave. And it wasn't just early in his career, either.

I consider myself lucky to have watched PF play in his prime

Often enough for opposing fans to start calling him Floppa. I remember it happening a few times in the 2003 series vs the Wild... the Wild still pulled it out in 7.

The third time was the charm for the Massachusetts Gaming Commission as its regulators voted Thursday to award the state's first sports betting license to Encore Boston Harbor after deferring similar votes for other outlets earlier in the week.
The commission's unanimous vote put the Everett casino owned by Wynn Resorts a big step closer to accepting in-person wagers on professional and most college sports, though it cannot accept bets just yet. The commission is targeting "late January" for the start of in-person betting at Encore, as well as at the other two gambling centers it already regulates, Plainridge Park Casino and MGM Springfield. Mobile betting could follow by "early March" unless the commission runs into complications.
"I think that this is great for the commonwealth. I know we took the vote saying that, but I do think it's great for the commonwealth," Commissioner Jordan Maynard said, referring to the commission's determination and vote that awarding Encore a sports betting license would "benefit the commonwealth."
Encore was the only of the three so-called Category 1 applicants that secured license approval on the same day that the commission first considered its application. On Tuesday, the commission deferred its vote on the application from Plainridge Park Casino in Plainville and on Wednesday put off a vote on MGM Springfield's application.
While the Encore application did not spark as many administrative or policy concerns in commissioners as the other applications did, the Everett casino's hearing Thursday was not without some hiccups. For one thing, the Gaming Commission realized halfway through Thursday's meeting that Encore had not submitted a specific section of their application and the regulators had to vote to agree to accept the late submiss
