Excellent day out. Avoid the visitor centre.
After 20mins waiting in line to pay (5 people in front of us), the Staff at the visitor centre were a bit rude and abrupt. Lady who served us did not chat at all just chewed gum in our faces and told us the total of what we ordered. The scones were dry and like a stone and sausage overcooked and like a rubber sword.

Luckily the forest park itself is the hero and saved the experience. Amazing trails with so much to explore on foot, bike or horse. I took miss 7 on the white trail and ended up doing a wiggly 6km loop off trail as the markers aren't overly clear. Wpuls recommend for adventure but not for food.

Me and my 12 y/o son went here on a rainy Sunday but that didn’t put us off. We are fairly inexperienced but fancied doing the red route. There is a small trails area as you start with examples of what each trail will be like. My son tried the red and it put him off so we went and did the blue. We had great fun and some of the second half was awesome. If I had to moan it would be that there is a lot of forest road bits rather than trails but it wasn’t the end of the world. My chain snapped 400m from the end, very lucky, and the guy in the shop was helpful and quickly had a new one fitted, he offered the cheaper option of a repair but I said to put a new one on. A quick and reasonable job and I’m good to go next time. We washed off the bikes using the facilities and had we have known there were showers we’d have made use of those rather than getting changed in the back of the van before using the cafe. Fresh simple food was served, staff weren’t particularly friendly but the food was quick and delicious. Will be returning one day in the future.
I can’t comment on any of the proper walks or trails, but we came as we’d heard it was good for kids and we weren’t disappointed. There is a small play park next to the car park and visitor centre, and then another small park along the shortest trail. Our 3 year old went along on a balance bike and it was a enjoyed stopping off at the parks and numerous little bridges over the stream.
Cafe is only open for outdoor sitting and takeaway at the moment but the food and coffee were good and very safe in terms of Covid-19 measures.

Despite a lovely afternoon walking the lovely forest trails, our day was spoiled by the rude and dismissive attitude of a member of staff on our return to the visitor centre. We arrived back at the centre literally between 5pm and 5 past. It was pouring with rain and we were desperate to use the toilet. The centre was closed and the outside toilets locked. We tried to catch the attention of a member of staff who was mopping the floor. She tried desperately to ignore us. When she finally acknowledged our presence, I asked her about toilets. She held up her hand with fingers spread to tell me that the centre closed at 5pm. It was literally just after 5. I accepted this and tried to ask where the nearest public toilets would be. She did not come over to speak to me and kept holding her hand up. She could clearly see that we were desperate but was not prepared to help in any way. We were disappointed and disgusted by her attitude. We drove into Newton Stewart where staff in a local Shell garage were amazingly helpful and directed us to their toilet. They couldn’t believe what we told them about our experience at the centre. It spoiled an otherwise lovely visit. 😞

Customer sat outside the cafe let his dog walk over and sit on one of the wooden tables where customers sit to eat and drink. When he went to the counter indoors the member of staff asked if it was his dog. I expected him to be told to get his dog off the table but no, all that ensued was a conversation about what type of dog it was etc. Hard to imagine anything more unhygienic!! Will not be going back there but I hope the environmental health team do.

The trails at Kirroughtree are great but don't overlook the café. We had a fab lunch there, the food was freshly prepared, great value and very tasty. The service was also spot on, really friendly and helpful. Well worth a visit.

We were pleasantly surprised with the MTB trails and the natural, rugged feel to them. Stunning weather made the incredible views even better. There is plenty for two full days of mountain biking for experienced riders who can manage the blacks which do have some challenging sections, but there is plenty of red also. We hired E-Bikes from The Brake Pad, and I have to say their service was excellent. Very helpful from throughout and great advice on the routes to take. Well worth a visit, I just can't promise the bright blue skies and sunshine we had :)

Me and my partner were saying in Newton Stewart and wanting to visit places in the surrounding area. Parking is relatively cheap, £1 for an hour or £2 odd for 3 hours, also overnight parking is available for camper vans and such. Lots of different walking routes ranging from easy to difficult. We never got the chance to find the 7 Stanes piece but managed to see some nice wildlife, waterfalls and scenery.

Plentiful and reasonably priced parking, good visitor centre, bike shop/hire with toilet and shower facilities (£2 for a shower). Well marked trails, blue trail good and a lot of fun (especially the second half). Red route not really worth it; feels like a lot of technical climbing without the fun descents.

Beautiful place with stunning views and walks which you can extend or even make it a light enjoyable walk. After the storm certain areas were closed however there was enough signs to direct you away fro. Those areas and around other routes. Simply wonderful.

Prematurely too wobbly for mountain biking but would have loved to have taken part, trails all looked very exciting and there were plenty of families clearly enjoying themselves. We took a stroll along two of the marked walking routes through the forest and I'd say these could be done by even the most accident prone of walkers with little fear of getting lost or stumbling. Maps showing the cycle and walking routes are available inside the visitor centre free of charge and bikes and equipment can be hired on site. The cafe was nice, not too expensive and the staff were a delight. The parking isn't free and you'll need cash for the ticket machine.

We hadn't booked, being a bit relaxed in holiday mode, and arrived early afternoon, and at first the bike hire centre didn't think that they could hire us any bikes, but then one very kind man working there wondered if he could fit us in, and despite the hire centre being very busy, he hurried around to see if he could organise some bikes together for the four of us, and he did! We were so pleased and grateful! He also took the time to quickly explain the routes for us. We had a brilliant time on the cycle route- my son particularly had the time of his life and said it was the best day of our holiday. Bikes were fantastic and sturdy, and none of us fell off, yey! Was a beautiful setting and the visitor centre and toilets are very clean and well presented too. What a lovely day- plus it was my husband's birthday too! Thank you!!

Loved the walks and views throughout our day here. We stuck to the yellow trail as the 3 year old maxes out at 5 miles (not bad though) After our walk and picnic we drove over to feed the deers and see the wild goats. The walk up to the Murray monument gives great views and a fighter jet flew over, perfect timing! We will be back and hope for a clear night!

Yes - they are metered, I think £1 for 3 mins
Are the bike trails only suitable for mountain bikes? Looking for some easy, off road paths for a family ride on hybrid bikes.
The green route is fine without a mountain bike
Yes inside and outside provided well behaved.
