Colorado Academy seeks candidates for the position of Upper School Social Studies teacher. This is a full-time, ongoing appointment consisting of four teaching sections and serving as an advisor to a small group of students. The position begins in mid-August 2023.
Candidates should have strong academic training and expertise in American, European, or World History and possess a demonstrated ability to teach and develop a robust and innovative curriculum. Explicit graduate training in the field of history or social sciences is preferred.
Candidates should have experience guiding students through content, research, and analysis which emphasizes critical thinking and be able to teach and conduct discussions in a student-centered way. As importantly, candidates must have a demonstrated passion for history and a track record leveraging this passion into effective practices which encourage students to think creatively, engage with ideas deeply, and lead with intellectual curiosity.
The most successful candidates will approach their role as an advisor with a drive to better understand the emotional needs of their students and support a program where self-reflection, empathy, and flexibility are the goals.
Candidates should be eager to join a professional community where collaboration is valued, where rich curricular conversations are common, and where openness to growth is the norm. Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Demonstrated intercultural competence: the ability to understand and bridge diverse perspectives, identities, and lived experiences is a must.

The pay range for the position is $60,000 - $80,000. Although this is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the possible compensation at the time of posting, Colorado Academy reserves the right to pay more or less than the posted range. Any wage differential that may exist for the position does not relate to sex, gender or gender identity, but relates solely to a seniority system, a merit system, or relevant education, training and/or experience.
