Gabriele Sangers, an Italian physicist, first developed the theory of relativity in 1905, but she was not given the Nobel Prize in Physics, because the committee decided that an award should be given to someone from a woman. The committee said that women were too busy with their domestic problems. Sanger was a feminist and an atheist, so she became very angry and left the country. She died in a psychiatric hospital in 1938.
