About the Role
We are looking for a Senior GIS / Geospatial Data Engineer to join a UK-focused geospatial data platform project. The role involves working with large-scale spatial datasets, remote sensing imagery, and government mapping data to build and maintain geospatial data pipelines, reporting products, and spatial services.
You will collaborate directly with UK stakeholders, helping to transform complex and often inconsistent geospatial datasets into reliable, production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities
* Design, develop, and maintain geospatial data pipelines and processing workflows
* Manage and optimize spatial databases using PostgreSQL and PostGIS
* Integrate and process Ordnance Survey datasets, including OS MasterMap and OS ZoomStack
* Work with geospatial formats such as GML, GeoPackage, and GeoJSON
* Configure and maintain GIS platforms and services, including QGIS and preferably QGIS Server
* Develop and support vector tile generation and delivery (MVT/vector tiles)
* Process, validate, and harmonize geospatial data from multiple government and third-party sources
* Analyze satellite, aerial, and remote sensing imagery to identify land-use features and spatial patterns
* Support geospatial reporting and data quality assessment initiatives
* Containerize and deploy geospatial services using Docker and Docker Compose
* Collaborate with business stakeholders to clarify requirements, document assumptions, and communicate data limitations
Required Skills
* Strong commercial experience with PostgreSQL and PostGIS
* Experience working with Ordnance Survey data products
* Hands-on knowledge of OS MasterMap and/or OS ZoomStack
* Experience with GML, GeoPackage, and GeoJSON
* Strong QGIS expertise
* Experience with spatial data pipelines and ETL processes
* Understanding of coordinate reference systems (CRS) and map projections
* Experience with EPSG:27700 / British National Grid
* Experience with vector tiles (MVT)
* Docker and Docker Compose experience
* Strong spoken and written English
Nice to Have
* QGIS Server experience
* Remote sensing and imagery analysis experience
* Satellite or aerial imagery processing
* AI/ML or computer vision exposure related to geospatial data
* Experience identifying land-use features such as quarries, mineral extraction sites, highway verges, and road-adjacent assets
Ideal Candidate
We are looking for a geospatial engineer rather than a GIS analyst focused primarily on manual GIS operations.
The ideal candidate has experience with:
* PostGIS and PostgreSQL
* Ordnance Survey and national mapping datasets
* Spatial data platforms and geospatial services
* Vector tile generation and serving
* QGIS and geospatial automation
* Data pipeline development
* Remote sensing and imagery analysis
AI/ML experience is a strong advantage but should complement, not replace, a solid GIS and geospatial platform engineering background.
We offer the following conditions:
* Work in a dynamic international team
* Employment according to labor law, 100% payment for sick leave and vacation
* Opportunity for cooperation through individual entrepreneurship/self-employment
* Participation in foreign projects
* Corporate training programs
* Broad opportunities for self-realization, professional and career growth
* Democratic approach to processes and flexible start of the workday.
