Poster sale at universities (Niagara County) Spooner Hall was named for Boston philanthropist, William Spooner, uncle of our fifth chancellor, Francis Snow. It's built in the Romanesque Revival style popular in the late 19th century. It opened in 1894 as the library. After Watson Library was built in 1924, Spooner became the art museum until 1977. Today, the main level is The Commons, a meeting space used for events, lectures, and exhibits. The sculpture, The Water Carrier, was dedicated in 1994 at Spooner's centennial. The courtyard to the south is named for Lawrence department store owner, Arthur Weaver. The oldest campus building still in use, Spooner is on the National Register of Historic Places.
