GCam OP5/T Frequently Asked Questions
Rohit Jat (@Rohit jat at xda-developers) and Nipun "shadowstep" (@shadowstep at xda-developers)Q. Which version should I use/which is the best version?
A. The recommended versions to use are by Urnyx05. You can download them using #urnyx05. You can also try the versions by Arnova8G2, which can be downloaded using #latest.
Q. What is the difference between GCams by Arnova8G2 and Urnyx05?
A. Urnyx05 uses GCams by Arnova8G2 as base. His versions are more optimized and contain certain device specific bug fixes for the OP5/T and hence GCams by him are recommended.
Q. What all do I need to setup GCam?
A. First of all, you need to install DotFix Magisk Module (which you can get using #dotfix). Once that is installed, then you need to download the GCam apk of your choice. If you download a GCam based on v6.2, then all you have to do is install and shoot (you can go to settings and see if you want to change something based on your preferences). If you download a GCam based on v6.1, then you have to also load a settings xml (which you can get from #xml).
Q. How do I load the settings xml into GCam?
A. If you're using a GCam that supports xmls, then you can load the xml by following the steps described here.
Q. I am not rooted and hence cannot use the DotFix Magisk Module. What do I do?
A. For unrooted devices, the best solution is to download and install Urnyx05's GCam based on v5.1 (from #urnyx05). Once installed, go to Settings -> Advanced -> Fixes and tweaks -> Enable Remove pink tint on all camera. You can get more details using #noroot.
Note: Without #dotfix (which needs you to be rooted), Front Camera HDR+ as well as Portrait Mode will not work. It is recommended that you root and install Magisk for getting the best experience.
Q. Portrait Mode doesn't work for me. What do I do?
A. Portrait mode only works on human faces and dogs. It will not work on anything else or any other object. Also note that the Front Camera Portrait Mode only works with the DotFix Magisk module installed, which requires you to be rooted with Magisk installed.
Q. Pictures taken by my GCam are pink/purple. What do I do?
A. This only happens when you aren't rooted and trying to use GCam. Either root and install the DotFix Magisk Module or use #noroot to find out the best solution.
Q. What is the Pixel 2 Colours Magisk Module?
A. As the name implies, it is a module that makes colour reproduction by GCam same as the colour production on a Pixel 2. It is not a mandatory module, and is completely optional.
Q. DotFix Magisk Module doesn't work for me. Why?
A. Some audio related Magisk Modules tend to interfere with the DotFix Magisk Module. Either uninstall those audio related modules or try settings your SELinux to Permissive and rebooting.
Q. Pictures taken by the Front Camera are green. What do I do?
A. This only happens when you aren't rooted and trying to use GCam. Either root and install the DotFix Magisk Module or use #noroot to find out the best solution. Also make sure that your settings are correct and the settings xml is loaded if you're using a GCam that supports it.
Q. I am unable to install GCam. I get an error that says "App Not Installed". What do I do?
A. This is because you already have a GCam installed and the signature of that app is different. The only way out is to uninstall all existing versions of GCam and then reinstall the version you were trying to install.
Q. Should I use HDR+ On or HDR+ Enhanced?
A. HDR+ Enhanced is recommended. HDR+ On might not work properly.
Q. Does GCam work in all ROMs?
A. Yes, it works fine in all ROMs (custom as well as stock). The developers are mostly using stock OxygenOS.
Q. I see some dots sometimes whenever I completely zoom into a picture. What's the issue?
A. Known issue, if you're unrooted. The DotFix Magisk Module reduces these dots extremely. It is recommended that you root and install Magisk for getting the best experience.
