Jolida FX Tube DAC/Preamp MK3 Our Level-1 and Level-2 mods for the Jolida FX Tube DAC/Preamp MK3 take this high-value DAC to the next level. The basic $500 DAC is a great sounding inexpensive tube converter with 3 inputs - 1 x coaxial, 1 x USB and 1 x optical. It features a Burr Brown 24/192 converter chip and offers upsampling of all incoming signals. It also has a nice headphone amp and volume control to be used as a digital preamp.

Our Level-1 & 2 modifications make it considerably better by increasing low-level resolution and bass performance as well as transparency.

These mods were designed by Chris Johnson of the Parts ConneXion in Canada. Chris is the founder and former president of Sonic Frontiers.
The Level 1 mod includes the following [$480 + frt. retrofit to MK1, MK2 and MK3 DAC's; 1380.00 + frt. pre-modified on curent new WIFI DAC's]:
Level 2 [$750 + frt. retro-fit to your DAC, $1680 + frt. pre-modified] - This replaces the Vampire RCA connectors with 1 pr. of WBT-0210-Cu gold over copper NextGen plugs and adds 2 x Tefcom Teflon-composite 9-pin PCB-mount sockets with gold-plated pins for the new TungSolL ECC803S gold-pin tubes in the output buffer stage. 4 hours labor.

Why Bother? This Tube-06 pre-amp unit uses 6N3 tubes. My other pre-amp uses different size tubes (6J1) which sound different. I bought this 2nd pre-amp unit so I could compare the tubes myself -- an opportunity to play with nuances of sound by switching the pre-amps (and subsequent switching tubes each time, which can yield different sound nuances.) Trustworthy? Yes. See photos, i.e. shipping box -- it tells me that the shipping company knows how to pack and respects the business transaction (relationship/rapport building) all that -- they get A+ for all those details sturdiness (protection)! Item (and lots of accompanying connectors), arrived as agreed - order placed on a Saturday afternoon & rec'd item 2 days later in Florida! In the meantime, I rec'd two gracious professional emails from them regarding receiving order & shipping notification. How Does It Look and Feel? When holding the Tube-06 there is legit weight to it. The knobs feel right.. See photos of item displaying front view and back view of pre-amp all wired-up and ready to destroy lol... How Does It Work? Oh HELL YEAH The introduction of tube pre-amp(s) into my intro-level audio system -- adds richness, clarity, and uniqueness. And now I can turn pre-amp knobs while I listen to the music and maybe even pretend I'm a Sound Engineer working a concert at MSG. With the pre-amp, the sound remains rich and clear yet at times there is a distinct 'coloring' to the music that adds beauty, i.e., at times I am surprised by a Tom Petty guitar twang that is layered with even more uniqueness (thanks, tubes) colors and subtleties. You can even play around with wiring the amplifiers intentionally out-of-phase - can be so incredibly interesting what a song or two from a live GNR concert sounds like out-of-phase. Or classic Zeppelin. The Billy Joel '08 Farewell Tour at Shea Stadium aka that debacle...$500/ticket, actually sounds better played through my system out-of-phase in 2021 than it did to attend it live way back 14 yrs ago.] Not shown in photos: I am running an audio system that starts with my laptop as the source; from there I use a (Hidizs S9 Pro) Dac dongle; out from here I use a Y Cable to split the sound into 2 directions, so I can run two amps - one for mids & highs & the other amp for low end. Speakers (3 - all passive): 2 x Elac DBR62 (6 ohms) that drive the upper and mids & 1 x Dayton Audio subwoofer (6 ohms) Amps: 2 x Aiyima amplifiers (the A07 and the A3001 subwoofer amp) These amps drive things solidly with plenty extra to spare. I have them running on their own dedicated power supplies (each getting a 32v5a dedicated power supply adapter bought separately.) The AUDIO FX Tube-06 Pre-amplifier comes with it's own dedicated power source - 12v1a adapter (U.S. compatible) My Conclusion: today 6N3>6J1 Of course that victory is short-lived, for tomorrow brings a new day (and a new competition.) The FX AUDIO Tube-06 Pre-Amp unit fits perfectly into my system, and is doing the SIMPLE things INCREDIBLY WELL... (and it looks really good while supplying clean signals to my amplifier). Thanks, FX Audio, this is a love-letter to you! Congratulations for designing and offering a reliable and fun product. Remarkably, most of these items are sold for well under $100 as of September 2021. (Finally re: wiring...see photos if you decide to go the RCAs route - opt to make the red-colored plug go the the right - be consistent w wiring! It will create perfect left/right setup.)

FX AUDIO Tube-06 Pre-Amp: I Believe I Just Hit The Pre-Amp Lottery!

This tube Preamp DAC will give the solid state Amp more warm sound make you comfort listen to all music. The DAC also perfect chips to decode the digital signal and 3 output you choice. So it was a good 3 in 1 product in market.

I had been wanting something like this to come along (tube preamp with DAC and sub out). Most other tube DACs are considerably more expensive in the audiophile world. I've tried out several other preamps like this (Chinese brand) over the years. Some I've sent back and some I've kept, and this will be a keeper. I like that RCA and USB cables were provided. It's important to know that I upgraded the tubes right away, and I have not been able to try out the stock tubes yet. I'll first comment on build quality/aesthetics. The preamp is hefty and solid, and tubes sit firmly in the sockets. The power/source button provide a firm click feel, the bass/treble knobs turn smoothly, and the volume knob has a very satisfying tactile turn. There are small white LEDs which illuminate at the base of the tubes - very subtle. I have tried two different methods of connection so far, the aux and optical. Both have worked perfectly and provide very good sound in combination with my audiophile power amplifier. Sound is clean, clear, and images quite well, but with separation of instrumentation, etc. I'm sure this will develop as the tubes get more play time. My speakers benefit with the use of a separate subwoofer, so it's very convenient for this preamp to have the dedicated sub output. Overall, I'm very impressed with this preamp, and I'm very glad that here in the US I have access to these Chinese audio companies who keep developing quality products like this. EDIT: I ended up returning this because I determined that it generates way too much noise in the line.

It sounded after I used Y rca plugs using it as a 2.0 instead of 2.1. The subwoofer is out of sync when used as a 2.1 and it sounds way better not using the sub out. I ordered some russian tubes for it and it sounds awesome. I recommend it for aound improvement in spite of the sub line out problem.

Improve sound quality, usb and optical inputs

The sound gets crackley if you turn the volume up past ~68%. It also gets crackley if you bring the treble up past ~75%. To be expected for a cheaper preamp. But it's perfect for my Harman Kardon Aura. I would buy this again.

Good little amp for the price. Using mine with same brand dac to accept CD player, Bluetooth phone playlists for my basement. Well made and good sound from klipsch bookshelf speakers.

Basic but must be improved with tweaks in order to maximize its potential.

Sound wise (not using the onboard DAC), the following tweaks will definitely improve what it can do out of the box. 1) RCA interconnects for inputs and outputs - use high grade audiophile interconnects, especially multi-strand with shielding for RF/EMI interferences. 2) tube rolling - standby 3 following types of 6N3 upgrade tubes 1) USA GE JAN 5670 2) Russian 6N3p-e 3) the elusive rare Western Electric 396a and Western Electric JW 396a. 4) use a power line conditioner and voltage surge protector for the small rectifier which supplies DC voltage/current. use at least a Furman M-10xe or above.

Perfect and it sounds great!

I was surprised the unit arrived at me 5 days from the US to Australia! Ordered from Amazon US the delivery was very fast and the important thing is the Tube 06 pre-amp is working and sounds really good. It makes my audio set-up pump hard. The bass is tighter and the treble works great. This pre-amp is hooked up to my Samsung Tablet 10.1 2019 via USB-C and headphone via 3.5mm jack to RCA input then RCA out going to my Edifier R2750 RCA input. Sounds amazing. I supposed to hook this up to my Topping DAC D30, I tried it but it makes it garbled a bit maybe because of the multi conversion process from digital to analog (D30) then digital then back again analog (Edifier own DAC). It sounds better when it is connected straight from the Tablet or phone then going to Amplifier.

Great Tube Preamp

The FX Audio Tube-06 is a,great addition to have between your player & main amplifier I've only got a few hours on it as far as brun in goes.but it already sounding,amazing.There's no distortion or hum even at it's full volume.For Aussie & NZ buyers,the power cord is,240/12v but it has American plug.So you'll need a US to Australian adaptor.I got mine from, officeworks $11.50 bunnings also sell them. I hope this helps.
