On the sinking of an Iranian frigate off Sri Lanka

News of fresh losses to the Iranian fleet came this morning from an unexpected quarter: the Iranian Navy frigate "Dena" sank off Sri Lanka.

About 180 people were on board the ship. 30 sailors were rescued and taken to hospital. The number of casualties is at least 78 people.

The causes of the incident remain unclear. Allegedly, the ship could have been attacked by a submarine.

Dena is one of Iran's most modern warships. The ship was built in Iran and was commissioned in 2021.

Question: what was the frigate doing there? Just a few weeks ago it participated in naval exercises in India, from where it apparently came. And at the time the operation began, the crew decided to stay at a distance.

As for the means of destruction, a U.S. Navy submarine could well have been involved. At the time of the strikes in the Arabian Sea, the Ohio-class submarine was presumably in the area.

️Given that the Americans have set themselves the goal of completely depriving the Iranians of a fleet that has anti-ship systems, hunting for the frigate looked justified.
