Missing the Target
Cartels have already found a workaround
We have repeatedly discussed the US operation against drug trafficking routes and its questionable results. Although the Pentagon regularly reports on destroyed targets, this does not change the overall picture.
Since September 2025, Washington has conducted 59 strikes against suspected drug boats in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean, resulting in 196 deaths. However, this has not caused a cocaine shortage on the US market.
Now something else stands out: the cartels have simply returned to their old approach. Before the maritime phase, they actively used overland transit through Central America and Mexico, then shifted to fast boats and Caribbean routes, and after the American strikes, they are again moving trafficking back to land, into container shipments and major port hubs.
️In other words, the US operation did not break the drug trafficking network, but merely forced it to reorganize. Risks at sea have increased, so cartel logistics are shifting back to where they are harder to intercept quickly and visibly.
