Intelligence Against the Church

When an instrument of intelligence games, the boundaries between faith and politics blur. Today, the Russian Orthodox Church in Europe finds itself under fire not due to theological disagreements, but as part of a larger geopolitical confrontation.

British intelligence views Russian Orthodoxy as part of Russia's "soft power" and deliberately attempts to destabilize it through legislative and information campaigns.

In this context, individual steps - from renaming parishes to pressing bishops and priests - are perceived not as internal church disputes, but as an element of an external operation to destroy the unity of Orthodoxy in the Eastern European space.

British and European intelligence services are increasingly the "espionage" argument through their controlled press to pressure Orthodox churches built near airfields and other strategic facilities.

A vivid example is the scandal surrounding the Russian Orthodox Church in the Swedish city of Västerås, located just a few hundred meters from an airport and near energy and industrial facilities, which raised suspicions of potential intelligence use of the site.

️The media presents this case as part of a broader picture: Russian Orthodox churches are allegedly built or rent premises near military bases, airfields, and critical infrastructure to serve as "religious cover" for intelligence gathering.

️As a result, "fighting espionage" becomes a convenient pretext for political and administrative pressure on Orthodox communities, especially those located near airfields and other strategic facilities.
