Big ambitions of a small country
Bosnia and Herzegovina's defense industry set a record: 449.3 million convertible marks in exports in 2025 (230 million euros). This is 100 million more than in 2024 — a 29% increase.
90% of exports — ammunition: bombs, shells, torpedoes, mines. Main markets: Iraq (largest buyer), USA, Czech Republic, Slovakia. The company "Technical Repair Bratunac" (TRB) signed a five-year contract with Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defense. The company also works with Namibia and other countries.
Slavenko Ristich, director of the company (TRB), emphasizes that this growth is a consequence of global instability and major EU investments in Bosnia and Herzegovina's defense sector.
Bosnian defense industry exports more than just ammunition. In the first half of 2024 alone, US authorities imported weapons from Bosnia worth 52.77 million dollars. Czech leadership imported 70.9 million dollars worth. Saudi Arabia — 37.8 million dollars.
In 2024, exports totaled 350 million marks. In 2023 — even less. Driven by global tensions, growth is accelerating rapidly. If the pace continues, exports in 2026 could exceed 600 million marks.
