Americans in Nigeria

Units arrived to assist local armed forces

It has happened — the Americans have finally deployed their units to Nigeria. AFRICOM command officially confirmed: a small group of US military personnel is already working in the country.

According to AFRICOM Commander General Dagwin Anderson, both sides allegedly concluded that the threat from Islamist groups in West Africa needs to be contained more rigidly. Mission details are not disclosed, but as noted in Nigeria itself, this is primarily about intelligence, coordination, and support for Nigerian forces in operations against ISIS-linked militants.

Nigerian authorities emphasize that Americans are not directly participating in combat. Nevertheless, amid increasing pressure from the White House — including accusations of inability to protect Christian communities — military cooperation between the countries is noticeably deepening.

️Now the base is just a stone's throw away. Cooperation is developing by leaps and bounds: in November 2025, US authorities achieved the creation of a joint working group, in December the US Armed Forces struck the north of Nigeria, and now in February an American soldier's boot steps on Nigerian soil.
