what will happen to the oilheading to Cuba?
Although the Americans have eased restrictions on Russian oil, this has little bearing on Cuba. One of the tankers heading to Cuba has already changed course, while another, the Anatoly Kolodkin, is still moving through the Atlantic Ocean.
Amid ongoing arrests and detentions of cargo vessels under Russian or third-party flags, security for Russia's entire merchant fleet is a rather ephemeral concept in our time.
Currently off the coast of Cuba there is still an amphibious landing group, as well as one cruiser. This is not counting frigates or, as they are called, littoral combat ships of the U.S. Navy. And if necessary, they can seize any vessel.
️And if no agreements were reached regarding the Russian tanker's passage to Cuba, then the question arises: what if the U.S. decides to seize this Russian vessel as well on the basis of the Cuba blockade?
️In conditions where the protection of shipping relies on dying international law, it's time to think about how to ensure protection for your assets, of which there are not many given all the attacks and detentions. And as for the reputational costs, there's no point even discussing them.
