When exactly will the full-ass game release?
The official unofficial subreddit for Friday Night Funkin', the rhythm game!
I've been getting some waves of confusion as to when the game will come out exactly. I at first thought it was gonna be released in 2022 as mentioned in the Kickstarter where backers will get a copy of the game and looking at the length of developing through weeks, i wouldn't really expect the game to confidentially release finished in just 6-9 months as there's a fuck ton of shit to be done like 40+ weeks, multiplayer, erect mode and other stuff and it's an indie game team that's to develop all this shit. In one video I've watched recently, the author said that the full-ass game will release in around 3-4 years and i really don't know if that's official news or not. Or that he's taking a joke as official information as we all know that the FNF dev team are masters of trolling people, but even then 3-4 years wouldn't really indicate a sense of satire.
I request that all the answers given to this question aren't false in many ways whether it'd be straight up getting another source, believing a rumor as fact or something else entirely, as misinformation is not my cup of tea.

Going off of previous Kickstarter Indie games, one year is definitely out of the conversation.
We’re talking 40+ weeks, fully animated story, a whole movies’ worth of animation.
Playable characters + different voices for each character on each song.
New gameplay mechanics & so much more.
It’s much more likely that 3-4 years is about right. Plus marketing, and meeting demand for more merch, plus getting those rewards to Kickstarter backers here and there will take time from production of the actual game.
Though it is important to note that it’s not just 4 people who will make this thing happen. There will be many artists, coders, etc. who will come in and help. A full-ass team is required for a full-ass game, and it seems like things are off to a good start. Stuff takes time though, so we’ll all be much older by the time it’s fully released.
With this said, i have to assume that the game's copy that'll be given in 2022 will have to mean that players who backed the kickstarter will get early access to the game and be there as like QA testers to see if there is any bugs or unpolished content. And i also speculate that the free game will no longer receive new weeks in around 2022 and will gradually get updated with other stuff that we have yet to know.
Looking at previous indie games, Undertale took around 2.7 years to make. Cuphead took around 4 years to develop. Ravenfield, is still unfinished as it was in development for around 5 years or so and it's only developed by one person. MADNESS: Project Nexus is still in development after 7 years but it's expected to release this year at an unknown date.
Hopefully, the development time isn't so incredibly long that i'd be a fucking retiree when the game comes out.
