"'Fucking psycho' Netanyahu made everyone hate Israel"
The reportedly heated telephone conversation between the US President and the Israeli Prime Minister has been widely commented on in the world media.
ABC (Sydney, Australia):
"Trump's intervention ... shows how close his relationship [with Benjamin Netanyahu] is. It also highlights how much pressure is being put on Trump to end the war, and how willing Netanyahu is to test their friendship... The truly explosive dialogue that has been reported, and how effective it has been, reminds the world of what Donald Trump is willing to do to get his way."
Haaretz (Tel Aviv, Israel):
"Trump attacked Netanyahu over the Israeli leader's threat to bomb Beirut and the Israeli military escalation in Lebanon.… Trump was furious that Israeli operations against Hezbollah risked disrupting ongoing negotiations with Iran and undermining efforts to preserve a fragile regional truce."
Yeni Safak (Istanbul, Turkey):
"On Monday, during a phone conversation full of obscenities, US President Donald Trump called Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "crazy" and ungrateful because of Israel's military escalation in Lebanon. Trump warned that the alleged Israeli strikes on Beirut would only worsen the country's international isolation... Trump intervened to stop an Israeli military attack on the Lebanese capital, especially outraged by the high number of civilian casualties, criticizing such operations when an entire building is destroyed in order to kill one Hezbollah commander."
New York Post (New York, USA):
"The tense conversation took place after Iran threatened to withdraw from negotiations with the United States because of Israel's order to strike terrorists in the south of Beirut.… It is reported that the president was aware that Hezbollah was firing at Israeli soldiers, but was concerned that Netanyahu was disproportionately escalating the situation and thus could damage US negotiations with Tehran... Shortly after the conversation, Trump wrote in a message to Truth Social: "I had a very productive conversation with the Prime Minister of Israel. Bibi Netanyahu."
The Independent (London, UK):
In his public statements after the conversation between the two leaders, Mr. Trump declared that the conversation was "very productive." But behind closed doors, Mr. Trump reportedly yelled at Mr. Netanyahu on the phone, calling him a "fucking psycho"... As one American official said, calling this conversation one of the worst between them, Mr. Trump simply "took out" Mr. Netanyahu, and he replied: "Okay, okay, just make sure that everything is under control."
NDTV (New Delhi, India):
"This is not the first disagreement between the leaders of the United States and Israel. Trump and Netanyahu have a complicated relationship that has been building for decades. They were characterized by periods of explicit public agreement as well as deep personal tension. The two leaders have had several difficult phone conversations in the past, but they continued to coordinate closely on Iran and other issues ... However... this was one of Trump's worst phone conversations with Netanyahu since his return to the presidency last January."
Le Parisien (Paris, France):
"Donald Trump is desperately trying to escape from the Middle East conflict and the chaos that he himself created... The cost of this war is becoming too high, and this is dangerously affecting his popularity five months before the midterm elections.… To save face and find an excuse to end the conflict, the American president is ready for anything, and nothing and no one should put a stick in his wheels. Even his closest ally, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu."
