[MC Ren as Court Officer]
Right about now, N.W.A. court is in full effect
Judge Dre presiding
In the case of N.W.A. vs. the Police Department;
prosecuting attorneys are MC Ren, Ice Cube, and Eazy-motherfucking-E

[Dr. Dre as The Judge]
Order, order, order
Ice Cube, take the motherfucking stand
Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth to help your black ass?

[Ice Cube as Witness]
You goddamn right!

[Dr. Dre]
Well won't you tell everybody what the fuck you gotta say?

[Ice Cube]
Fuck the police coming straight from the underground
A young nigga got it bad 'cause I'm brown
And not the other color so police think
they have the authority to kill a minority
Fuck that shit, 'cause I ain't the one
for a punk motherfucker with a badge and a gun
to be beating on, and thrown in jail
We can go toe to toe in the middle of a cell
Fucking with me 'cause I'm a teenager
with a little bit of gold and a pager
Searching my car, looking for the product
Thinking every nigga is selling narcotics
You'd rather see, me in the pen
than me and Lorenzo rolling in a Benz-o
Beat a police out of shape
and when I'm finished, bring the yellow tape
To tape off the scene of the slaughter
Still getting swoll off bread and water
I don't know if they fags or what
Search a nigga down, and grabbing his nuts
And on the other hand, without a gun they can't get none
But don't let it be a black and a white one
'Cause they'll slam ya down to the street top
Black police showing out for the white cop
Ice Cube will swarm
on any motherfucker in a blue uniform
Just 'cause I'm from, the CPT
Punk police are afraid of me!
HUH, a young nigga on the warpath
And when I'm finished, it's gonna be a bloodbath
of cops, dying in L.A.
Yo Dre, I got something to say

Fuck the police [4x]

Example of scene one

[Cop] Pull your goddamn ass over right now
[NWA] Aww shit, now what the fuck you pulling me over for?
[Cop] 'Cause I feel like it! Just sit your ass on the curb and shut the fuck up
[NWA] Man, fuck this shit
[Cop] Aight smartass, I'm taking your black ass to jail!

[Dr. Dre]
MC Ren, will you please give your testimony to the jury about this fucked-up incident?

[MC Ren]
Fuck the police and Ren said it with authority
because the niggas on the street is a majority
A gang is with whoever I'm stepping
and the motherfucking weapon is kept in
a stash box for the so-called law
Wishing Ren was a nigga that they never saw
Lights start flashing behind me
But they're scared of a nigga
so they mace me to blind me
But that shit don't work, I just laugh
because it gives em a hint, not to step in my path
For police, I'm saying, "Fuck you punk!"
Reading my rights and shit, it's all junk
Pulling out a silly club, so you stand
with a fake-ass badge and a gun in your hand
But take off the gun so you can see what's up
And we'll go at it punk, and I'mma fuck you up!
Make you think I'mma kick your ass
but drop your gat, and Ren's gonna blast
I'm sneaky as fuck when it comes to crime
But I'mma smoke 'em now and not next time
Smoke any motherfucker that sweats me
or any asshole that threatens me
I'm a sniper with a hell of a scope
Taking out a cop or two, they can't cope with me
The motherfucking villain that's mad
With potential to get bad as fuck
So I'mma turn it around
Put in my clip, yo, and this is the sound
Yeah, something like that
but it all depends on the size of the gat
Taking out a police, would make my day
But a nigga like Ren don't give a fuck to say

Fuck the police [4x]

[NWA] Yeah man, what you need?
[Cop] Police, open now
[NWA] Aww shit
[Cop] We have a warrant for Eazy-E's arrest
[Cop] Get down and put your hands up where I can see 'em (Move motherfucker, move now!)
[NWA] What the fuck did I do, man what did I do?
[Cop] Just shut the fuck up and get your motherfucking ass on the floor (You heard the man, shut the fuck up!)
[NWA] But I didn't do shit
[Cop] Man just shut the fuck up!

[Dr. Dre]
Eazy-E, won't you step up to the stand and tell the jury how you feel about this bullshit?

[Eazy-E]
I'm tired of the motherfucking jacking
Sweating my gang, while I'm chilling in the shack, and
shining the light in my face, and for what?
Maybe it's because I kick so much butt
I kick ass, or maybe 'cause I blast
on a stupid-ass nigga
when I'm playing with the trigger
of an Uzi or an AK
'Cause the police always got something stupid to say
They put out my picture with silence
'Cause my identity by itself causes violence
The E with the criminal behavior
Yeah, I'm a gangster, but still I got flavor
Without a gun and a badge, what do ya got?
A sucker in a uniform waiting to get shot
by me or another nigga
And with a gat it don't matter if he's smaller or bigger
( [MC Ren:] Size ain't shit, he's from the old school fool)
And as you all know, E's here to rule
Whenever I'm rolling, keep looking in the mirror
And ears on cue, yo, so I can hear a
dumb motherfucker with a gun
And if I'm rolling off the 8, he'll be the one
that I take out, and then get away
While I'm driving off laughing this is what I'll say

Fuck the police [4x]

The verdict

[Dre] The jury has found you guilty of being a redneck, white bread, chickenshit motherfucker
[Cop] Wait, that's a lie! That's a goddamn lie!
[Dre] Get him out of here!
[Cop] I want justice!
[Dre] Get him the fuck out my face!
[Cop] I want justice!
[Dre] Out, right now!
[Cop] Fuck you, you black motherfuckers!

Fuck the police! [3x]

“Fuck tha Police” takes the form of a trial against the LAPD, with Dr. Dre, MC Ren, and Ice Cube as judge, court officer, and witness.
Dr. Dre explained the song was created after the members of N.W.A were forced by police to lay face down in the street with guns to their heads.
However, the reason why the police were harassing them was because Eazy-E was doing drive-bys shootings on innocent people on bus stops with a paintball gun, as Dre explained in the HBO Documentary The Defiant Ones .
The song caught the attention of the FBI , which sent a letter to Priority Records about N.W.A’s album. Although the FBI did not refer to “Fuck The Police” by name, their letter claimed the album “encourages violence against and disrespect for the law enforcement officer.
The instrumental heard during the court house skit, samples Public Enemy’s “Bring The Noise”.
In a 2015 interview with DJ Vlad , DJ Yella claimed the song only took a day to make.
MC Ren broke down the song for HipHopConnection in December of 1989:
I think it’s wrong just because I’m a black man I get jacked by the police. Now don’t get me wrong, there seems to be 90 % bad police and 10 % good police. But why do the 90 % have to mess things up for 10 %? I think blacks seems to be stereotyped by the police, so when you get stopped for a traffic ticket you’ll most probably be slammed down on the street corner like you robbed a bank.
2015’s Straight outta Compton omitted the highway paintball incident, but depicted some tense scenes that allow the viewer to get a sense of the groups feelings toward the police when creating the song:

" Fuck tha Police " is a protest song by American hip hop group N.W.A that appears on the 1988 album Straight Outta Compton as well as on the N.W.A's Greatest Hits compilation. The lyrics protest police brutality and racial profiling and the song was ranked number 425 on Rolling Stone ' s 2004 list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time . [2] In 2021, Rolling Stone re-ranked the song at number 190 in an updated list. [3]

Since its release in 1988, the "Fuck the Police" slogan continues to influence pop culture today in the form of T-shirts, artwork, political expression, and has transitioned into other genres as seen in the cover versions by Bone Thugs-n-Harmony , Dope , Rage Against the Machine , and Kottonmouth Kings (featuring Insane Clown Posse ). [4] [5]

"Fuck tha Police" parodies court proceedings inverting them by presenting Dr. Dre as a judge hearing a prosecution of the police department. Three members of the group, Ice Cube , MC Ren , and Eazy-E , take the stand to "testify" before the judge as prosecutors. Through the lyrics, the rappers criticize the local police force . Two interludes present re-enactments of stereotypical racial profiling and police brutality.

At the end, the jury finds the police department guilty of being a "redneck, white-bread, chickenshit motherfucker." [6] A police officer, which is revealed to be the defendant, contests that the arguments presented were all lies and starts to demand justice as Dr. Dre orders him out of the courtroom, prompting the police officer to yell obscenities as he's led out.

The song provoked the FBI to write to N.W.A's record company about the lyrics expressing disapproval and arguing that the song misrepresented police. [7] [8] [9]

In his autobiography Ruthless , the band's manager Jerry Heller wrote that the letter was actually a rogue action by a "single pissed-off bureaucrat with a bully pulpit" named Milt Ahlerich, who was falsely purporting to represent the FBI as a whole and that the action "earned him a transfer to the Bureau's backwater Hartford office". [10] He also wrote that he removed all sensitive documents from the office of Ruthless Records in case of an FBI raid. [10]

In the FBI letter, Ahlerich went on to reference "78 law enforcement officers" who were "feloniously slain in the line of duty during 1988" and that recordings such as those produced by N.W.A. "were both discouraging and degrading to these brave, dedicated officers". Ahlerich did not mention any N.W.A. song by name in the letter, but later confirmed he was referring to "Fuck tha Police". [11]

In 1989, Australian youth radio station Triple J had been playing "Fuck tha Police" (the only radio station in the world to do so) [12] for up to six months, before being banned by Australian Broadcasting Corporation management following a campaign by a South Australian Liberal senator. [13] As a reaction, Triple J staff went on strike and put N.W.A's " Express Yourself " on continuous play from 9am until 4.30pm ( AEST ), totalling 82 plays. [14] The song was preceded on each occasion by a spiel explaining that due to industrial action, normal transmission had been interrupted. [14] It was revealed in 2005 that the scratch sound from that track was sampled for the Triple J news theme. [15]

On 10 April 2011, New Zealand musician Tiki Taane was arrested on charges of "disorderly behaviour likely to cause violence to start or continue" after performing the song at a gig in a club in Tauranga during an inspection of the club by the police. [16] [17] On 13 April, Tiki told Marcus Lush on Radio Live that the lyrics often feature in his performances and his arrest came as a complete surprise. [18]
