Bouygues Telecom believes that Free uses deceptive marketing practices to sell its Delta Freebox. A case now in court.

The launch of the Freebox Delta was one of the tech events of the end of the year 2018. For this new box, Free has completely changed economic model and offers a very elaborate box TV for the " modest " sum of 480 euros. Fortunately the operator offers interested customers to pay in several times, up to 48 monthly payments of 10 euros. A practice that Bouygues Telecom does not like very much.

The newspaper the express reports indeed that the operator accuses Free of " deceptive commercial practices " before the commercial court of Paris. According to Bouygues Telecom, Free did not give sufficient details regarding the payment offer in several installments to the general public, to buy the Freebox Delta. The operator estimates that Free must pay 170 million euros to cover sudden losses.

An answer to a charge of Free

The Express explains that the procedure launched by Bouygues Telecom is in fact a response to the case launched this time by Free in 2015. At the time, the former telecommunications troublemaker accused Bouygues Telecom of being also misleading in its business practices, this time regarding the Bbox's rental fees and unbundling fees. More greedy than its competitor, Free had asked for 275 million euros in damages.

This new case comes about so Free just comes out of court proceedings . This time with the group Altice , owner of SFR and chains BFM and RMC.
