Frame. 74 innocent

Orhan Babakurban

The aftermath of the Bolshevik Revolution triggered social and political unrest leading to the transformation of the Central Asian political landscape in the early 1920’s.

Monarchies were transformed into Republics, and thus new states like the Bukhara Peoples Republic emerged.

Aware of the lack of cadres, the Jadid leaders of the government initiated an ambitious educational project to send young men and women to study abroad. The goal was to educate these students in Europe’s epicenter of arts and science, Berlin, Germany.

Come explore the journey of 74 innocent students’ hopes, dreams, trials and tribulations in the pursuit of knowledge to serve their nation to achieve independence.

This memorial presentation includes rare historical photographs, footages and documents to explore the fate of those students who returned to the motherland and those who did not.
