Fourchette Piercing
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A fourchette piercing is a female genital piercing . It is a piercing done at the rear rim of the vulva , in the area of frenulum labiorum pudendi . Many people do not have a pinchable flap of skin in the area, and are not suited for this piercing. Otherwise, placement and piercing tends to be relatively easy.

The fourchette piercing is most similar in location to the male guiche piercing . It requires a pinchable flap of skin at the rear rim of the vulva. Piercers should not pierce into the vaginal tissue or vaginal canal as the vaginal tissue often rejects the piercing.

Many piercers are not willing to do this piercing. [ citation needed ] The fourchette is a rare piercing which requires the proper anatomy. Many women do not have the pinchable flap of skin, making the fourchette impossible. [ citation needed ]

Healing time is relatively quick, as with all piercings in the genital area. Healing time is usually around four to six weeks. Hygiene is usually a concern; with the piercing's proximity to the anus, the wearer must ensure the area is well cleaned following defecation.

Many wearers have reported that this piercing is prone to stretching on its own. Discomfort with intercourse has been reported by some wearers [ citation needed ] , whereas some may find it quite pleasurable. Migration and rejection of this piercing are fairly common.

The name Fourchette Piercing comes from the French word for “fork”, and is a particularly beautiful and straightforward type of genital piercing.
The Fourchette is performed at the end of the vagina. Where the outer and inner labia meet at the opening of the vagina there is a small flap of skin, and that is where the Fourchette piercing is placed.
The piercing canal runs vertically through the perineum.
This piercing does not come into contact with the woman’s anus. Also, it is not placed inside but outside the vagina.
Fourchette is French for “fork”, and refers to the position of the piercing at the fork between the vagina and the perineum.
This piercing is largely dependent on the anatomy of the woman and cannot always be carried out. Many women simply do not possess the additional flap of skin in the rear vaginal vestibule or at the entrance of the vagina.
If the flap of skin is present, the piercing can be carried out without difficulty. The best option is to use a thicker ring from the start, minimizing the risk of it being torn out later.
If and where it is ultimately placed will depend on the customer’s anatomy and is discussed in detail with the piercer beforehand.
In many cases the Fourchette is possible, even though the customer doesn’t think it is, based on her own inspection of her anatomy.
The Fourchette Piercing generally heals very quickly and there are rarely any complications, since it is in constant contact with urine. Approximately 3-4 weeks are needed for the initial healing stage.
Genital piercings can take between 2 weeks and 6 months to heal completely, rarely longer. Like other piercings, in the first three weeks it should be cleaned with ProntoLind spray twice a day, and then coated with ProntoLind gel. It is important to wash your hands before touching the pierced area and the jewelry itself. By caring for the piercing in the correct manner and with the proper materials, you will rarely have to deal with cases of proud flesh.
Disinfectant solutions containing alcohol or chlorine should be avoided.
When it comes to having sexual intercourse following the piercing we do not advise you against it, but usually people wait a couple of days before resuming normal sexual relations or stimulating the area in question.
Because of its proximity to the anus, you need to ensure even greater hygiene than usual during the healing phase. Therefore, when wiping yourself, ALWAYS do so AWAY from the genital area to avoid contaminating the piercing.
As jewelry we recommend a curved barbell or a ball closure ring with a thickness of at least 2.0mm.
Many customers choose to stretch the Fourchette Piercing to 3 – 4mm and find this to be very pleasurable. The ring diameter, however, is kept quite small, that is between 8 – 10mm.
Some customers prefer a banana bar or a bar instead of a ring. It is simply a question of exploring possibilities.
It stimulates both parties during intercourse and therefore provides powerful vaginal orgasms.
The piercing can be very pleasurable when performing daily tasks as well, like sitting on an office chair and sliding back and forth. But not to worry, this can also be regulated by varying the type of clothing or jewelry worn.
Overall, the women who’ve gotten this piercing have reported gratifying results.
PS: The piercing does not interfere with daily movements or sexual intercourse.
Either the anus piercing, the female Guiche piercing, or the Suitcase piercing.

I’m concerned with my fourchette piercing. I don’t believe it was done properly. It seems as though it was placed towards the side rather than centered. Looks more like the way a eyebrow is pierced?
Fourchette is a very beautiful piercing that can add some enhancement. It is not surprising that many women choose this genital piercing . It not only looks great but can also add to sexual pleasure due to its position on the perineum and edges of the vagina. Since Fourchette is there to please, it is important to position it correctly. Improper placement is a common Fourchette piercing problem that many clients face.
In order to be able to enjoy a piercing to the fullest, it has to have a proper placement. Improper placement can lead to numerous issues, such as discomfort or injuries. In the case of functional piercings, such as Fourchette, improper placement can take away from pleasure you should experience with this piercing.
While there are many women who have a great Fourchette piercing, it is important to say that improper placement is a common Fourchette piercing problem. It mainly happens due to piercer’s error. Keep in mind that genital piercings are special piercings so the person performing them has to have a lot of experience and knowledge. Simply being a good piercer for regular piercings is not enough. In order to perform good Fourchette piercings, the piercer needs to know a lot about this specific piercing. Knowing how to choose and perform the correct placement is one of the things a reliable piercer needs to provide.
In case your Fourchette piercing has an incorrect placement, you may encounter several downsides. First of all, your piercing might be uncomfortable even after the initial healing stage has passed. Such a piercing might snag on underwear or get caught in uncomfortable ways.
Another problem you may encounter if your Fourchette doesn’t have a proper placement is that it’s not pleasurable. Keep in mind that Fourthette piercings often provide pleasurable sensations to the wearers. This piercing is done on the perineum and on the edge of the vagina, which is a very sensitive area. However, keep in mind that there is no guarantee that you will feel enhanced pleasure. There are women who don’t find Fourchette particularly pleasurable or sexually stimulating, even with the right placement.
As you can see, improper placement can make a lot of trouble for a Fourchette piercing. However, it is important to understand that there are several different placements for this piercing. A good piercer will always choose the one that is suitable for your anatomy.
What does it mean? While a typical placement for a Fourchette piercing is centrally on the perineum, it is also possible to place it to the side or at an angle. These placements are not technically wrong, as long as they go well with your anatomy and as long as they don’t prevent the functionality of the piercing.
In other words, you might or might not have a Fourchette piercing problem if your piercing is to the side. There might be a reason for your piercer to position it that way. On the other hand, it might be a wrong placement that is not correct for your anatomy. The only way to know is to consult your piercer and also to seek consultation with another, reliable piercer to verify the placement.
It is important to act quickly so you can minimize the potential problems. Make sure to find a reliable piercer who specializes in female genital piercings. Some piercers will do preliminary consultations online by using photographs. A good piercer can often tell if the placement is wrong just by looking at a photograph.
It is best to act quickly before it’s too late and your Fourchette starts giving you trouble. If you have an improper placement it may be a serious Fourchette piercing problem that might force you to retire your piercing. However, chances are that you can always get pierced again and there is always a chance to save your existing piercing. Keep in mind that the placement you have might not be incorrect even though it’s not typical: the only way to know is to consult a piercer with plenty of experience with Fourchette piercings. Make sure to do this soon so you can act quickly in case there is an actual problem with your piercing.

How to Heal Your Fourchette Piercing

Fourchette piercings are suggested to be downsized at approximately 12 weeks if needed. Downsizing your jewelry can have an effect on the end product. When we do an initial piercing we will size your jewelry to sit comfortably during the healing process. Some clients will find that they would prefer a different fit as they wear it. There are different styles of jewelry that can accommodate each client’s anatomy and purpose.
All healing processes have the potential to vary, so any quoted times on healing and downsizing are what we see most often, but may not apply to every instance.
Once daily, we suggest rinsing in your shower head continuously for 60 seconds. Find a cadence that works for you to be sure you are staying honest. We find it best to pick a portion of a song you can sing either out loud or in your head that measures out to 60 seconds. This should allow most dried matter to rinse away freely, and hopefully limit the use of gauze or cotton swabs. These items may be needed, but you must be certain to avoid leaving any fibers from these products behind as they can work their way into your piercing causing irritation.
Also keep in mind that some of that dried matter may be acting as a scab, and if it is prematurely pulled may cause some irritation to the skin. You can usually tell by where the dried matter is located. If it is completely on the jewelry it should be removed, but if it appears to be attached to the skin it would be best to leave it if it did not rinse away after your 60 second jam session.
Twice daily, we suggest sterile saline wound wash (you may see it called sterile saline wound flush) to be used as a rinse. Pointing the nozzle toward your jewelry spray around the piercing site being sure to include the area where the jewelry enters and exits the skin. There are many brands and options that can be found in most stores that have a first aid/bandage aisle or through us. The biggest difference in our product is the way the tip expels the saline. Ours is a fine mist, but many store products will be labeled as full stream.
Be aware the full stream uses more saline per use based on the volume dispensed, and may have a surprising amount of pressure for use around the face.
Please be sure that the only active ingredient is .9% sodium chloride.
Twice daily, we suggest making sure the piercing site is dried thoroughly. After your shower, and after your final cleaning of the day are great times to do this.
Set your blow dryer on cool, and dry all sides of the piercing area. Don’t forget to be attentive to any folds, crevices, ridges, and other small areas that can trap moisture.
Reducing the opportunity for moisture to remain around your new piercing will help the initial healing period considerably.
Please do not use any other products on your piercing without consulting with us. Many products used in first aid will be too harsh and result in healing delays or complications, or possible damage to your jewelry.
Avoid sleeping on or applying pressure that distorts the piercing site. This is one of the main causes of irritation and issues with piercings. This would also include snagging, bumping, or jarring the piercing. Be especially mindful when changing your clothing or using washrags to not catch or snag your jewelry.
Checking for end security or tightness is the only time touching your piercing is suggested. This would be when you get out of your shower or bath with clean hands and the piercing has been freshly rinsed. All jewelry has components that may come loose over time and should be checked occasionally for security or tightness. Please follow this link to view examples of how different styles of jewelry function.
The products used in skin preparation prior to the piercing can upset the natural bacteria levels in this area, and because of this, yeast infections following a fresh piercing may happen.
Please refrain from unprotected sex while this piercing is healing. This would include oral and penetrative sex. Listen to your body, if something hurts it may be better to avoid that activity until you are further into your healing process.
As per the CDC guidelines , you should avoid swimming until any wound is considered closed. As we have previously described, that may vary from person to person, and from piercing to piercing.
Please keep in mind that submerging your piercing prior to it being closed may expose you to bacterial or viral infection. The more public the environment the higher the risk.
The CDC does offer the suggestion that wounds can be covered with waterproof bandages prior to them being closed, and while this may be possible with some piercings it is important that the bandage creates a good seal on the surrounding tissue to truly make it waterproof. Prior to applying a waterproof bandage be sure to rinse and dry the area well.
Some things you may see during your healing period can include swelling, bruising, bleeding, redness, a small amount of discharge that may be clear to a yellowish white, and the “crust” or dried matter this discharge can leave behind.
These don’t necessarily denote an issue with the piercing, but are more than likely a result of the piercing process and subsequent healing.
