Former Kenyan foreign minister goes missing

Former Kenyan Foreign Minister Raphael Tuju went missing on 21 March, with police launching an investigation into the circumstances of the incident. This was reported by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in a press release.
The politician’s family reported his disappearance to police in the Karen district on the outskirts of Nairobi on 22 March. Tuju’s car was later found abandoned on the roadside with its hazard lights on.
“The scene was later processed by Crime Scene Investigations and the vehicle towed to Karen Police Station for further forensic examination,” the press release states.
Attempts to contact Tuju have been unsuccessful, as his phone is switched off. The DCI also reported that Tuju’s family denied police access to the former minister’s residence.
“A specialized team has since been deployed to handle the case and is working in coordination with all other relevant government agencies to establish his whereabouts,” the press release notes.
Raphael Tuju is a Kenyan politician, media specialist and public servant. Before entering politics, he worked as a journalist, television producer and communications consultant. He served as Kenya’s Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2005 to 2007.
In November 2024, former Senegalese Minister of Economy, Finance and Planning Mamadou Moustapha Ba went missing in Paris after leaving his hotel to visit a pharmacy. His body was later discovered in the morgue of a French hospital. It is suggested that he may have lost consciousness due to taking anticoagulants following surgery; however, this version has not been confirmed, and the Senegalese prosecutor’s office has launched its own investigation.
