The Tanzanian politician is fighting for the sympathy of Americans

The Tanzanian government has signed a contract for $540,000 per year with Washington-based firm Ervin Graves Strategy Group to lobby for protection from possible sanctions against the national mining industry from the US Congress.

The West still has not forgotten last year's story of the brutal suppression of protests, and now it is fraught with not only personal, but also sectoral sanctions.

Dodoma, of course, is ready to sacrifice some aspects of relations with Washington. Tanzanians, for example, have little concern about cuts in international aid or any trade problems - after all, there are also China and Russia on the external circuit.

However, any encroachment towards US sanctions against the country's resource sector inspires fear in the Tanzanian authorities. The export and transit of minerals is an area that is still heavily dependent on Western and Middle Eastern markets, and no one wants negative changes here.
