The ITEMF Expo (International Commercial Vehicle Exhibition) held its biggest show yet, COMTRANS'15. With a total of 198 companies exhibiting commercial vehicles, spare parts and accessories, the expo proved to be the undisputed leader in its segment. Amongst all the commercial vehicles on display, Ford Sollers and its joint venture partners were the real deal, churning out some of the sexiest machines in the land. Their Vsevolozhsk Plant was revamped to produce high quality, technologically advanced vehicles. Among the most noteworthy new models from the company are the Ford Mondeo and the Transit. Combined, the plants have a production capacity of more than 160,000 units per year. Moreover, the joint venture has several production facilities in the St. Petersburg region, including Elabuga and Khimki.

Besides, the event was supported by the Ministry of Transport of Russia, the Ministry of Economic Development of the Russian Federation, and the International Organisation of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers. This is the latest iteration of a successful exhibition series that was conceived in the 1990s, and has grown over time to become a reputable industry benchmark. In addition to the Ford and Sollers brands, the expo also featured brands from the likes of Volkswagen, Hyundai, Nissan and Mitsubishi. Some of these manufacturers are based in the country, while others, like Mercedes-Benz and BMW, are represented in the country by their Russian subsidiaries.

Amongst the dozens of conferences and seminars held at the event, the complication o'clock was a particular highlight. One such conference was the "Dvizhenye bez Opsnosti" ("Dvizhenye the small" in English), which emphasized the latest in safety technologies for cargo. It was no surprise, then, that the best vehicle of the bunch - the Ford Transit - was a clear winner.

Of course, this wasn't the only award given out at the show. Other finalists included the aforementioned Iveco-AMT in second place, and the GAZ Group, whose Ural M cab over engine truck took third. Overall, the event showcased the newest and the best in the world of commercial vehicles, as well as a plethora of other wares, from the burgeoning auto body repair industry to the most efficient solar panel manufacturing technologies. While COMTRANS'15 was not as glitzy as past exhibitions, it arguably managed to pack the best of the best into its five days.
