England defeated Malta 7-0 in their 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium. Harry Kane led the way with a hat trick to take his international tally to 48 goals, just five shy of Wayne Rooney's all-time England record. Additional goals from Harry Maguire, Jordan Henderson, Tyrone Mings and a Bukayo Saka brace ensured the emphatic result remained as such.

Malta came into the match rooted to the bottom of Group I with zero points from their four previous qualifiers. They faced an uphill battle against an England side sitting pretty at the summit with a 100% record. Gareth Southgate named a strong lineup including Kane and Raheem Sterling up front along with Phil Foden and Saka supporting in the creative positions. The Three Lions dominated proceedings from the outset and Maguire headed home Luke Shaw's corner after nine minutes to give them the early advantage.

Kane doubled the lead on 19 minutes when Sterling intelligently picked out his run behind the defensive line and he coolly lifted the ball over the advancing goalkeeper. It was hardly a surprise when Henderson slammed home a third from 25 yards just before the half hour mark 😮. Sterling continued to ghost past defenders at will and it was from one of his raids that Foden's cross was headed in by Mings to make it 4-0 just before the break. The game was rendered essentially over as a contest by the midway point.

The one-way traffic continued after the restart as Saka finished off a sublime team move with his left foot soon after the restart. He added another moments later with his right to complete his brace in style 😎. Kane was denied a hat trick goal when his penalty was saved just after the hour but finally achieved his treble with 15 minutes remaining, calmly directing home substitute Reece James' low cross. Southgate was then able to withdraw several star players with Euro 2020 qualification already secured and one eye on greater challenges ahead.

Malta coach Devis Mangia will be concerned by his team's lack of competitiveness here. They have now conceded 20 goals in their five qualifiers so far, underlining the gulf in class between themselves and the top nations. But with more matches to come, they will hope to show greater resilience and threat going forward. For England, the attacking firepower on display ensured this was a straightforward outing that maintained their sparkling form under Southgate as they fine-tune preparations for Qatar 2022 🏆. - https://mbscore.tv/match/england-vs-malta-18712366
