Another drawback of their films is that their speed is lower than indicated. Fomapan 100 is 80, Fomapan 200 is 160, and Fomapan 400 is closer to 200. Another problem is their weak anti-halation undercoat, although some people like the blooming effect. Their 120 rolls come on a thin film base that curls and annoying to scan.

Fomapan makes 5 different film stocks. We discussed 400 and 100 here, but there is also a 200 speed, a soft look 320 speed, and a black and white reversal film as well. The 200 speed is a different emulsion than the 400 and 100, and in my experience has a little less contrast and slightly finer grain. Conclusion Buy it, and keep buying it.

According to the manufacturer's own data, Fomapan 200 is best rated at EI 80-100 in most developers. I personally find fomapan 200 builds contrast very quickly and for this reason, I dislike it.

Anyway, Fomapan Creative 200 is available in 35, 120, and sheet variants, all over (search, or here's a link to Freestyle), for reasonable prices, so it's worth a try if you're looking for a medium speed, clean, classic black & white film.

Now, does Fomapan 200 soup up nicely with Caffenol-C-M or does it require bromide in the mix (getting some next week in any case)? How fast can I shoot it and still expect to be getting shadow detail?

The Fomapan 200 resolved it well. I shot this whole roll at ISO 200, but Foma claims that this film can be shot anywhere from 100 to 800 without changing anything about how the film needs to be developed. That would make this film hugely versatile, and I'm eager to try pushing it to the max when the light is low.
The fomapan's (100, 200 and 400) are all different, especially the 200 that you either love or don't. Before commiting to a whole bulk, I'd buy a roll of each and photograph the same scene at different EI (ie 2 stops under box speed, 1 stop under, box speed) and develop in R09 using foma's time and agitation.
