Fog Hill of the Five Elements is Chinese mythology and element-themed donghua. What you didn’t know about it is as follows.
Fog Hill of the Five Elements, also known as Wu Shan Wu Xing, is an animated web series produced by Samsara Studio and Nice Boat Animation in China, commonly known as Songhua.
What follows is a story full of unexpected twists and turns, ranging from characters fighting a qilin to save a relative to supernatural warriors with talking ducks, all portrayed in a distinctive graphical style that resembles an ancient living picture. Even though the initial story arc lasted only three episodes, fans are already anticipating what the plot has in store for them.
The series is unique in that it is not based on a well-known manhua or novel series. This implies that fans will have to rely on their imaginations to determine what will happen next.
However, different aspects of Chinese mythology ultimately enter the plot, beginning with a qilin, or kirin, who appears at the story’s beginning with the classical elements.
The first season was supposed to premiere in 2019. However the year went by without any new episodes. The show’s first three episodes were released the following year. Despite this, the episodes were released on an erratic timetable, which fans assumed was due to the small studio that worked on the series.
Despite these problems, a preview for the second season was posted, with the remaining episodes scheduled for broadcast in 2021.
Chinese mythology and philosophy’s five classical elements, or “phases,” are fire, water, earth, wood, and metal.
The five components are used to represent a wide range of occurrences. Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, and Venus are the planets they correlate to. They also connect to the four seasons, with earth signifying the interseasonal interval.
The Five Elements also refers to five warriors who symbolize their respective elements in this series.
In addition to the animation series’ leader, Shentu Ziye (Water), Gongyi Churen (Earth), Rongcheng Moxi (Wood), and Xuanyuan Shenjun, there are four other characters:
Shentu Ziye (Water), Gongyi Churen (Earth), Rongcheng Moxi (Wood), and Xuanyuan Shenjun (Metal). Each of the five warriors wears a mask to conceal their true identities.
They can even morph into their appropriate element, as witnessed when Fire and Water fight.
The titular “Fog Hill,” or “Misty Mountains,” Wu Shan, is a significant location in the series, with stories surrounding the power it possesses and may impart.
It is referred to as a divine and holy location. It is also where the Elemental Warriors’ five titles can be obtained. It is, nevertheless, teeming with creatures. To maintain the balance, a robust seal was eventually installed.
The plot is set in ancient times, and the first adversaries are monsters.
To give humanity a fighting chance against the monsters, chosen people were magically gifted the power of the elements as well as the energies of Yin and Yang, allowing them to combat the demons and seal them away on a mountain that also housed sacred beasts.
To save his mother, the fire warrior mistakenly freed one of the holy animals by releasing the seal.
On the other hand, humans believe the narrative behind the mountain is just old mythology by the time the animated series takes place.
In the series’ pilot episode, a town of human characters is highlighted. Su Xiao An, a young human girl, is the village chief’s daughter. She gets lost on the mountain and comes across a mysterious boy bathing, who appears to be a plain duck herder.
He shows himself as Wen Ren Yu Xuan, the warrior of fire, and saves the girl from a monster onslaught. His duck, Su Guan, reveals that he is more than meets the eye, even warning Wen Ren Yu Xuan of a broken oath.

While a peacock monster attacks the human hamlet and turns its victims to dust, another guy transforms into a mole-like monster with gigantic claws and needle-like fangs and is forced to kill his family and little children. He eventually begins pleading to be put out of his pain.
While it looks to be the work of the peacock monster at first, the truth eventually emerges: the humans consumed medicine created from the flesh and blood of the captured infant Zilin .
At the end of the third episode, Wen Ren Jing Xuan arrives. Viewers believe the character relates to Wen Ren Yu Xuan, probably a younger brother.
Wen Ren Jing Xuan was rumored to be the fire envoy in early material, but Wen Ren Yu Xuan eventually took the role in the series. This has sparked a slew of fan speculation.
The elements may have several envoys simultaneously, that the title of fire envoy is passed down, or that the character was named after the main character’s working name. Because elemental warriors are obliged to wear masks, this probably has something to do with the five warriors’ identities being hidden.

Fog Hill of the Five Elements is a donghua centering around Chinese mythology & the elements. Here's what you didn't know about it.
Fog Hill of the Five Elements , also known as Wu Shan Wu Xing , is an animated web series coming from China , also known as donghua, coming from Samsara Studio and Nice Boat Animation.
What soon unfolds is a story with all kinds of twists and turns, from characters fighting a qilin to save a relative to death itself to magical warriors with talking ducks, all told within a unique art style resembling a living ancient painting. And even though the first story arc only lasted around three episodes, fans already have their hopes for what the story still has to offer.
The series is an original story, not having been based on a popular manhua or novel series. This means fans only have their imagination to let them know what happens next.
That said, various aspects of Chinese mythology eventually come into play, from a qilin, or kirin, who makes an appearance at the start of the story with the classical elements.
The first season was meant to be released in 2019, but the year passed without any episodes coming out. Its first three episodes finally came out the following year. Even so, the episodes faced an irregular schedule, which fans suspected came from the small size of the studio working on the series.
However, despite these issues, a teaser for the second season was released, with the following episodes expected to have a 2021 release.
In Chinese mythology and philosophy, the five classical elements, or "phases," are fire, water, earth, wood, and metal.
The five elements are used to parallel various phenomena. They correspond to five of the planets: Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Mars, and Venus. They also relate to the four seasons, with earth representing the transitional period between the seasons.
In this series, the Five Elements also refers to a group of five warriors who each represent their corresponding element. In addition to a fire warrior, who is the leader of the animated series, there are four known others: Shentu Ziye (Water), Gongyi Churen (Earth), Rongcheng Moxi (Wood), and Xuanyuan Shenjun (Metal). Each of the five warriors dons a mask to hide their full faces.
As seen when Fire and Water battle, they even have the power to transform into their respective element.
Wu Shan, the titular "Fog Hill," or "Misty Mountain," is an important place in this series, with legends surrounding the power it has and can bestow.
It is described as a divine and holy place. It is also the place where the five titles of the Elemental Warriors can be attained. But it's also filled with monsters. A powerful seal was ultimately put in place to keep the balance.
Taking place in ancient times, monsters serve as the original villains of the story. To give humanity a chance against them, chosen people were magically granted the power of the elements and that of Yin and Yang to fight off the monsters and seal them away at a mountain that also contained holy beasts. The fire warrior ended up releasing the seal in a scheme to save his mother and accidentally released one of the holy beasts.
By the time the animated series takes place, however, humans believe the story behind the mountain is just an old legend.
A village of human characters features prominently in the pilot of the series. Su Xiao An, a young human girl, is the daughter of the village chief. She finds herself lost at the mountain where she meets a mysterious boy, who appears to be a simple duck herder, bathing.
However, when he protects the girl from a monster attack, he reveals himself as Wen Ren Yu Xuan, the warrior of fire. Even his duck, Su Guan, reveals that there is much more to him than meets the eye as he even warns Wen Ren Yu Xuan over a broken oath.
A young qilin, a holy beast and creature from Chinese mythology often compared to the Western unicorn, escapes the mountain when the fire warrior releases the seal to save his mother.
The younger qilin is captured by humans who used its scales or skin as a medicine to treat various ailments. This causes the monsters to attack the human village.
While a peacock monster attacks the human village and reduces its victims to dust, another man suddenly turns into a mole-like monster with giant claws and needle-like teeth, who finds himself attacking his family and small children beyond his control. Ultimately, he starts begging to be put out of his misery.
While it initially appears to be the machinations of the peacock monster, the truth comes out — this is the result of the humans ingesting medicine made from the flesh and blood of the captured baby qilin.
A character identified as Wen Ren Jing Xuan appears at the end of the third episode. Viewers speculate the character is a relative, possibly a younger brother, of Wen Ren Yu Xuan.
Some early material suggested Wen Ren Jing Xuan was the fire envoy, a role taken by Wen Ren Yu Xuan in the series. This has led to many theories from fans. It's possible that the elements can have more than one envoy at once, the title of fire envoy can be passed on, or that the character was named in honor of the main character's working name. Tying into the fact the elemental warriors are expected to wear masks, it is possible this might even tie into hiding the identities of the five warriors.
