Summary: The 2i2 3rd Gen is a solid advancement to the product line. Generation III helps this brand to remain at the forefront of audio interfaces. I had sold a previous interface and found myself in a pinch where I needed to get something recorded and produced within 48 hours. I found myself with a 2i2 3rd Gen and it was perfect. Good things you should know: Contrary to other reviews, you DO NOT need any external drivers. It truly does remain plug-and-play, as they say. External drivers are solely optional, as your specific setup might warrant them. Here was my scenario; plug in USB to laptop, open DAW, set input to 2i2, record. Latency - what latency? That's a thing of the past. Bad things you should know (that do not reduce the rating whatsoever): The bundled software (ProTools First, Ableton Live Lite) is a train wreck and will require much more than the 20 minutes they estimate to set yourself up. It requires creating multiple accounts on platforms for downloads and digital licensing (if you're not already set up). The included software largely remains a means to make the product more marketable. Your BEST options remain to buy a monthly subscription to ProTools ($$), buy Reaper ($), or use Audacity (for free).

We use these for a community radio station, and has used the 1st and 2nd gen 2i2s for years without problems. They fail after 2-3 years of 24x7 use, but that seems reasonable. However, the 3rd gen switches to a USB C connector with lightning, which requires a separate driver. In order to deliver this driver, the interface shows as a USB drive with the installation media. This causes the system not to boot if the device is plugged in. Focusrite also tries to get you to register the device and drivers with their web sites before the USB connection can be made. The new driver is also dropping connection after extended periods. Look for gen 1 or 2 of this device if you aren't using it for short periods, and unplugging it after you are done.

I play guitar in my spare time and don't know the first thing about getting set up with a DAW or the logistics of recording my music or even getting it to play through my headphones. Other approaches I've seen have been extremely confusing, intimidating, and finicky to someone like me who knows nothing about the correct gear for this stuff. Not only does this seem to be working perfectly, but the series of tutorials Focusrite has created made it extremely simple for me to get set up, plugged in, and jamming in no time. I can't speak to this product as a professional musician, but if you're a dummy like me you've certainly come to the right place!

style: Solo (1 Mic Pre) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

The Focusrite Scarlett Solo is, quite simply, the ideal USB interface for recording the human voice or a single instrument. You could purchase a 2i2, but if you only need one input, why pay more? The solo is easy to use, has an excellent latency free headphone jack, and lets you get high quality audio from professional-grade microphones, either condenser or dynamic, into your computer. The build quality is excellent. You will need a preamp such a Cloudlifter with dynamic mics due to their lower output, but that's a function of the mic, not the interface. I use the Rode NT condenser mic or either the Rode Procaster or Electrovoice RE320 dynamic for recording voiceovers. The results are vasttly superior to any USB mic I've tried. Highly recommended if you're serious about audio.

I'm still in the process of learning the guitar. Mainly classical but bass and jazz as well. Wanted to have the ability to record the instruments especially with another. I'm am new to all things musical and really didn't find google that helpful until I came upon this unit and from there, several videos gave me a better sense of how. This is the ideal unit for me. You take it out of the box, connect it to your computer via the supplied USB-C cable and it directs you step-by-step from that point on. If there is a decision to make, they include the option to watch a video to explain the choices. I chose the most complicated path and within 2 hours recorded my first track. A lot of that depended on download speed and that I watched every video option presented. I look forward to using this a lot. Their support videos are fantastic.

I had the first generation 8i6 Scarlett and just bought the 3rd generation solo. It’s totally a different sound volume and quality. Best interface I have had.

I have been a Focusrite Solo user and this is a fantastic upgrade. The air button is a nice touch to sweeten the sound. Well built and I’m already getting great recordings with it. Easy and intuitive to use, works great with Garageband.

Perfect for My Recording Projects

This little thing is fantastic for the money. I use 2 "quiet" mics, a Shure SM58 and Beta 57a. With a Fethead attached, I only need to raise the gain a couple of notches to get a clean signal. Without the Fethead, I need to crank up the gain 1/4 -1/2 of the way up but it doesn’t introduce too much noise. It does but it's not quite deal breaking. This makes it a perfect device for podcasting, streaming but also for making great sounding recordings in a padded studio. The quality is far superior to the Presonus Audiobox USB which I also use for instruments. But that's because I've had that one for a while. If I had to buy all over again, I'd pick a Focusrite with more inputs. I'm really impressed by how good the quality is. The software included is demos of great programs but I don't use demos. That's where the Presonus device is much better: it comes with Studio One Artist which is an amazing Pro-Tools like DAW and some top quality plug ins. It also has MIDI In/Out. You have to pay a more to get that from Focusrite but I think the quality of the mic pre-amp is totally worth it.

PORTENTO! Utilizzata come DAC, non c'è paragone!

style: Solo (1 Mic Pre) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

Grazie!!

USB Driver Installation Not Simple

style: Solo (1 Mic Pre) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

I'm an IT professional and even I struggled to install the software. My mistake was to plug in the Scarlett Solo to USB before installing the software. DO NOT DO THIS because Windows will then search Windows Updates for drivers and then get into into mess which won't be solved when you go to install the downloaded Focusrite Control software and USB driver. That will hang for a very long time and maybe not complete at all. Follow these steps: 1. Download the FocusRite Control software 2. Right click and Run as Administrator 3. Select either Full Installation or one of the specific USB/Thunderbolt options 4. Accept to install each of the the USB and/or Thunderbolt driver. This might seem to take a long time installing the drivers but leave it to get on with it. 5. Reboot your computer and wait for the Focusrite Control window to come up saying "Hardware Not Connected". 6. Now plus in the Scarlett Solo and WAIT while Windows goes off and searches Windows Updates. This may also seem to take a long time but be patient. 7. If all is well, Windows will come back saying device is ready, having linked the driver to your Solo and Focusrite Control will show the Solo configuration options. 8. Lastly, it is advisable to go to your Windows Playback Devices, and in the Properties of the Focusrite Usb Audio, go to the Advanced tab and untick the option to "Allow applications to take eclusive control of this device". Having gone through this learning curve for a couple of hours, I'm very happy with the sound quality. The earth hum and other unwanted noises I was getting from my older 1st generation Scarlett is no longer present.

Might be good if it worked.

style: 4i4 (2 Mic Pres) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

It's a nightmare to get working. Bought to replace an old Roland Quad Capture for better sound quality. Spent 3 hours trying to get t to work. Then called Focusrite support who weren't that. Left a message. By the next day they hadn't called back to called again. Spent 2 hours on support and eventually got it just about working. The management software is useless and very unintuitive. The Roland software runs rings around it. I just upgraded my MacBook Pro to Catalina - Focusrite says it works fine with Catalina. No it doesn't. It doesn't show in the hardware or USB items. Called Focusrite again - nobody there, "leave a message". My message is, it's going back to Amazon. Thank goodness for Amazon's 30 day returns policy. I'm seriously struggling to see where all these 5 star reviews come from....mmm.

Avis d'un amateur avec un DT770 250 Ohm

style: 2i2 (2 Mic Pres) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

Focusrite scarlet 2i2 3rd generation

style: 2i2 (2 Mic Pres) Pattern Name: Interface Verified Purchase

I purchased this on October the 1st it's now almost Hogmanay and I still have not got any software up and running. I'm having another attempt to install the drivers and other software. I did contact focusrite to explain my situation and I am not great at understanding computers. I had no idea how complicated it would be to even install the drivers etc. I ended up in floods of tears because after about 4 hours I still had no success and my computer kept becoming unresponsive meaning I had to force it to shut down. I then had to uninstall the failed software. Because I suffer from severe M.E. which not only has left me severely disabled and in a wheelchair, I struggle with simple cognitive abilities. Things most people take for granted such as following speech or even having the ability to concentrate enough to enjoy a movie. I have used very basic music software in the past, but it was a friend that did all the difficult parts such as installation. He got me up and running. I was a singer songwriter as a hobby health permitting of course, till I became very seriously ill with M.E 3 years ago. The person who I chatted to online from focusrite, really wasn't able to offer me the help and support I so desperately needed. He just brushed me aside and told me to watch the videos online, that there's plenty of videos. The problem is, I'm struggling to follow the tutorials, because they tend to be aimed at people who are fortunate enough to know computer lingo and know how to do basic computer tasks. I'm having another go. I'm patiently waiting for Ableton live to download. I've managed to install the drivers, but I'm not getting any sound through my microphone, I need to troubleshoot why. Maybe it's because it's an SM 58, I noticed someone else who reviewed this product said that he had to bring the volume up really high. I'm in no doubt that this is an incredible piece of kit, it's just I'm not really clued up on technology. I've never been properly taught.
