Here's my most recent commission, ordered by the wonderful client who has previously commissioned a bunch of pieces, such as Quiet, Lightning, and Rutela. This one features Stephanie Courtney's Progressive Insurance character, Flo, showing off her feet with a big ol' smile on her face.ย
This was a fun piece to do; I am trying to work on my likeness skills, so I'm taking it really slow and inching my painting technique in that direction. I don't want to push too hard, since my style for faces is rather basic and anime-inspired, and swinging too hard to try and convey realism can end up creating some really ugly results.
The relative simplicity of the costume enabled me to focus on the painting aspect, without worrying about tons of lineart details. I'm also really happy with how I'm doing the painting of the feet; I've been using less lineart strokes on the soles, and the skin in general, considering that the volume of the skin should be rather soft.

Never thought I would see Flo get feet art. These more obscure characters always get my attention. Excellent job an the drawing.

I must say that she looks quite a bit cuter (her features look more graceful to me) than real-life Stephanie Courtney, so I'd say that you still have to exercise your likeness skills. On the other hand, if we ignore the matter of similarity and think this is an original character, I think you did a really fine job with her presentation. She looks like the kind of person who can always cheer you up during a long, hard day at work.
By the way, does she wear foot jewelry inside her closed shoes? I... don't think that's its purpose. ย
I do make an effort to add an extra layer of cartoony โcutenessโ to the characters I draw, so when it comes to likeness, that usually overrides much of the realism of the face.
She wears foot jeweler inside her shoes so they look good when she takes the shoes off. ๐
Well, I don't think anyone saw that coming. Interesting choice.
Definitely an unusual one; but it was fun!
